I have a walbro 392 and a 15 micron in line pre filter. The temp got down to -20 for the last few days. I filled up and got some bad fuel next morning truck would not build any fuel pressure I took the pre-filter apart and it was clogged with ice cleaned the filter and started the truck ran for about 20 seconds with 12 pounds of pressure and then drop to zero yep filter clogged again so I took the pre filter out, started the truck aging and the same thing happened this time the screen on the walbro clogged. If I get bad fuel again the same thing is going to happen so I was thinking about mounting the Walbro pump after the factory filter and doing a way with the in line filter. Do you think the walbro would work very well pulling fuel instead of pushing it? I’m hoping that the engine heat and the factory fuel heater will keep the pump from icing up.

I wouldn't take that filter out. It just saved your VP twice. Fix the problem, not the solution. Remove the bad fuel from your tank. And find another fuel source.

I’m still going to filter the fuel before it gets to the vp44 I’m just wanting to use the factory filter instead of the in line filter. I’m thinking about getting one of these http://www.glacierdieselpower.com/product.asp?pf_id=FS1212-UK and running it with a in line fuel heater like this http://www.maesco.com/products/racor/r_dfh_intro/r_dfh_intro.html I know its not very likely I will have to deal with this problem again I’m just trying to save my self if it does. I appreciate the help and am open to any other suggestions.

Thanks

This is the 15 micron filter

About 10 years ago I was working at a power plant that used kerosene as a backup fuel during cold weather, well it dropped down between -15 and -20 and we started burning K-1, well this plant burned 8800 gallons per hour so the tankers started rolling, half way through the day our unloading line strainers plugged up, we dropped the screens out and they were plugged with ice crystals (big ones). We ended up looking in the tank trailer and could see a frost forming on the inside of the trailer as it emptied out, when the guy would go fill back up the ice would all be floating in the trailer.

Not that this helps but it could be a source of water or could be happening in your tank. I would think the plastic tanks would be better but if someone had a metal tank in their bed it could lead to this.

I sent an e-mail to Richard at Glacier diesel to see what he thought about pulling fuel instead of pushing it. I think I got this issue all worked out but I thought I would scan for codes……. P-0216 Fuel Injection Pump Timing Failure High fuel supply restriction, low fuel pressure Do you think the 216 was from my lift pump issue or is the vp44 really dead? I cleared codes and am going for a drive hopefully it will not return. I also had the P-0236 Map Sensor Too High Too Long…how do I get the 236 with the edge juice doesn’t it have boost fouling?

if you have access to FPPF melt down. Comes in a qt. bottle and treats a little over 100 gal, i would dumb that in. We use it all the time where we work. Only use it when the fuel gels and what not, it will thaw everything out.

I looked at FPPF melt down on there web site, I might have to get some for an emergency. Any one have any ideas about the codes?

Out of the three 24 valves we have this will be the 4th vp44 in a year. My 99 just hit 100,000 with original pump I guess I can live with that
