Diesel's everywere

Pulled an International today

I found this interesting. We are exporting diesel to foreign countries in order to get cheaper gasoline. This is from MSNBC

What’s up with diesel?

Owners of diesel-powered vehicles — accustomed to seeing that grade of fuel sell at a substantial discount to gasoline — have been frustrated and perplexed by the sharp rise in pump prices. The average price of a gallon of diesel hit $2. 30 this week — up 65. 5 cents from a year ago.

Part of the rise can be explained by the strong U. S. economy, say analysts. Just about every product sold in the U. S. eventually winds up in a tractor trailer or railroad car powered by diesel. With the U. S. economy humming along, so is demand for diesel.

Strong demand in Europe, where car owners prefer diesel engines in greater numbers than in the U. S. , has also stoked demand for U. S. exports of diesel, further tightening markets here. Because of the relatively high demand for diesel, European refiners typically have spare gasoline to export to the U. S. , which has helped keep gas prices from rising even further.

I'm glad the economy is so strong, but I bet it's not going to stay this way once the ever increasing fuel prices find their way into all of our consumer goods that we depend on. High diesel fuel prices have the ability to wreck our economy IMO. I wonder how long things are going to last if the cost of living keeps going up at such a high rate.

Diesel prices going down in the summer?

I have never paid attention to the trend of diesel prices, however now that I own a diesel I am certainly more interested. I was told by a fellow diesel owner that it is typical for diesel prices to drop in the summer as the need for fuel oil for residential heating drops to basically nothing.

Anyone know if there is any truth to this?

Yes,diesel usually drops in the summer. This summer I think everything is going to keep going up. Notice how opec raises the price per barrel, and the next day, before the tanker even leaves port, the pump price goes up a nickel? Oil companies suck! Sorry about the soapbox! have fun w/ yer ride! pete

Ditto to what Pete said, same in Canada. BTW we're your most important source of oil (as a single country), be kind to the Alberta cowboys - honk, smile & give thumbs up when you meet one :-laf . Dan

Nearly all of my local dump truck owner/operators are selling their rigs... :(

Most of them are just running the trucks to pay the note for them while at the same time trying to sell them... not good

Don't you guys GET TIRED of being FEED a BUNCH of BS

by the Oil Companies who Feed This CRAP to the media - WHO then in TURN READ the press release to us and essentially say better bend over and get ready - cause you ain't seen nothing yet! These guys have more excuses than Cheny and Wolfowitz on trying to find out where the WMD's are! Now these clowns are selling that --- The Rest of the World is using all the Oil --- thus causing the $$$ to go up - BUT WAIT - WHAT about GROSS OIL COMPANY PROFITS at YOUR Expense? These people have no INTRGRITY AT ALL! They are all CROOKS!

If you think the price is bad now, wait until next year when ULSD will be required. I fel the reason it's gone up so much in the last few years is because of all the extra refining that has went into it. With the EPA getting alot of the "pollutants" out of it, it's no longer just a byproduct.

This is sad it's like this, I feel for the independents trying to earn a living. I have also noticed more toys for sale also in my neck of the woods motorhomes, travel trailers, big boats, fourwheelers, dirtbikes, etc. I know it's taken a toll on us since where down to one income now, but would have anyway even if the wife was able to work because I don't like being shafted by the higher fuel prices, it does and will effect everything sooner or later. I still do enjoy reading the money is no object post though. Glad there not seeing the affects "yet".

YEAH ... IT'S ALL BUSH'S FAULT!!!!

Please, spare me.

On another note, maybe the site of a few big time oil execs swinging from a light post over the a hot Texas highway would make a slight impression on the oil companies price strategies.

Not to get political here but diesel would be about 14 cents a gallon cheaper if it weren't for those in congress (who do you think?) who voted on a party line with Al Gore casting the tie breaker in '93 to raise taxes on diesel fuel (among other things as well). Diesel would be much closer to where it ought to be relative to gasoline if it weren't for that extra 14 cents! I'm really surprised the truckers haven't parked it for several days in protest yet over these prices. But, being the good patriots most of them are, they probably don't think it would be proper under the circumstances I guess. God bless 'em all

wanna know who doesn't hate gas prices

george w bush... ... .....

What about the semi drivers. I mean at some point everything travels on a truck. Therefore if most of the average americans weren't in the american dream( or up to the eyeballs in debt so deep they can't afford to miss a day of work) wouldn't a nationwide call to strike with every owner op and even the smaller companys to go with it. Wouldn't it be something that one week later would just take care of itself. However that'll never happen because jim bob needs to pay his morgage while billy bob has saved and is planning on paying cash for his place. He wouldn't have any prob's taking off a week or even a month. However the guy living on the big bank philosophy which is a total trap will never be able to afford to do it and will even have to have his funeral financed. I think every semi driver nationwide refused to drive in 2 days this place would be a zoo from coast to coast. they'd probably just hire the turnaround crew from mexico through nafta and good old william clinton

What???????????????????

Scroll back and review the Bush Cheny energy plan. It would have clearly eased the strain on the energy industry. Had it have passed the house and senate and passed unchanged you would not be seeing the prices you see today especially when comes to down stream operations (refining and marketing). It would have allowed government subsidies for improving and the building of new pipelines, and improving the refining infrastructure, not to mention streamlining the permitting process for increasing the throughput capacities of the countries refineries, and I shouldn't have to tell you what that would have done to Gas. Jet, and Diesel prices.

Kerry's solution was a tax on all fuels to deter their use there by reducing our dependency on oil imports.

Mac

I think it will all come to a head by late summer. As far as diesel fuel goes, it seems to me like everyone is expecting a drop in prices very soon do to the season or whatever. I think once we move into the summer months and it becomes clear that fuel prices only have one direction of travel now, people will be pushed over the edge and we will see strikes and Govt. intervention. Just my guess anyhow. :D I don't see it getting better, it has been a long time coming, but I just didn't expect it to happen over a matter of months rather than years. We've had it real good compared to the rest of the world for a long, long time.
