Local dealer has two new Rams. One 2500, and a 3500 SRW. Both trucks, I gotta admit, are beautiful. Fit and finish is excellent.
I had a Dosimeter (value $1000... high end unit) with me and asked the sales guy if he'd let me take sound level measurement on their truck and compare to mine.
Microphone placed on top of right front tire under wheelwell of both trucks, at idle. Both truck engines warm. Both trucks parked next to each other.
03 Ram = 82. 9 dBA
01 Ram = 92. 3 dBA
9. 4 dBA difference is huge... . maybe 75-80% quieter. Someone with more knowledge correct me.
I also heard the 03 slow accelerate across the parking lot. Exhaust note from the 4" stock muff and pipe is nice. Straight-piped or with high flow muffler will probably give these new trucks a unique character because all you'll hear is exhaust note with little competition from the engine.
