What does the election mean to diesel vehicle owners?

Is there any chance at all that there is a gasser 1 ton pickup available to the American market, that will make 14 mpg or better, pulling anywhere from 8000- 10000 lbs behind it? Ie. a 24 ft. flatbed gooseneck+ load.

14 mpg is what I am currently making with my 04. But this $. 40 to $. 50 per gallon difference in price, between gas & diesel, is starting to depress me. Plus the fact that quite often I have the diesel smell in the cab. :(

If the best mileage a gasser would make is 10 mpg, then it still pencils out cheaper to keep what I have , I guess.

Another thing to consider, is , is a gas engine going to last for at least 300, 000 miles? :confused: It appears that my diesel is going to.

What do you guys & gals think? Will a gasser do it?

Not going to get 14 mpg, not likely to last 300k, and not going to have as much usable power or reliability. I big block gasser is probably in the 8-10 mpg range with 10k. There is a reason that big rigs use diesel engines.

As far as smell in the cab I believe that Geno's has a fresh air filter kit. Never tried it, maybe someone else can comment.

Fortunately for me diesel is only a little more expensive here. You might consider some of the aftermarket power upgrades that have economy modes. (I believe that the smarty is one of them). Driving style can also make a 10 percent or more difference in economy.

Thanks for the comeback. I suspect that you are right. To bad though . Gas powered engines seem to be much quieter, and don't stink so much. I used to really like the smell of diesel exhaust many years ago, but, a lot has changed since then.

i have a buddy with a fairly late model big block chevy crew cab that gets 5-6 pulling around 10k, if you are smelling diesel in the cab id be looking for the leak. when i was truck shopping i had two types to choose from my favorites, a big bad cummins with a stick or a 67-72 chevy long bed that i would hot rod, i figured if i got the gasser the mpg would bite hard the way i drive, i flog the diesel pretty hard and get a pretty consistent 17, i don't really want to get rid of the 4. 10s so i will eventually get a gear venders OD and see if that gets it up a little, i seriously want another gear when up to interstate speeds 2200+ rpm cruising just doesn't sound right

40-50 cents more :--) where are you fillin up at? The biggest difference I have seen is about 30 cents. I have noticed the further from the big towns and interstate the small towns are havin their way with people. :-{}

How you been Jess?

things are good here.
