The WRX is still no comparison to even a mildly bombed MKIV Toyota Supra turbo('93-'98 in the U. S. ). They're a little laggy bone stock... . but for about $1000, they'll make about 450rwhp.

Not bad for a 3. 0L I-6! If you have more money, they'll make over 1000rwhp without too much trouble.

Matt

There is a Supra here in town that layed down 675 to the rear tires. But funny thing is its been Smoked by a ton of cars around here. Its so laggy by the time its making power its 5-6 cars back from a decently fast car. Impresive on the Dyno VERY, impresive on the street or dragstrip NEGATIVE I won't even tell you the 1/4 times it turns lol... but it does show a good MPH on the boards

Clark

The 2JZ Supras will turn 115-120mph with minimal mods... .

I have driven a Supra that went 10. 77 in the 1/4 mile... . and IF you could get it to hook up on the street... it would be crazy fast on street tires.

Matt

This one ran a 14. 05@120, traction problems on the big end of the track. It has been converted over to one big single turbo on it and it needs to go back lol. I say a 75shot of nitrous would help kill that lag for sure. Its fast as hell once it gets going but a decent street car is long gone by then.

You ever seen any street racing videos with the Walsur Supra in it? I have one on CD of a70mph rolling start with a Suzuki Hyabusa... the Hyabusa get SMOKED lol awsome for sure :D.

Clark

Yeah, did you see the video of the Walser Supra VS. the modifified 'Busa? :-laf

The little turbocharged motorcycle turns the tables on the big bad car.

When that video was made that car had mild HKS twins, cams, and a 70 shot... . and probably BPU++. A good build for a solid 700hp on the juice...

Here's a URL for the most badas_ K-car on the planet - belongs to a guy named Gary Donovan in CT... . this thing is sick... . watch it take out a mild Supra with EASE here: http://www.thedodgegarage.com/video/ned_supra_reliant_short.mpg

The video I like is the one where it has one Supra that takes off and it says, "The mild set up" then another one passes it, and it says, "The wild set up", and then this one just passes both of them, and keeps going on out of site, and it says, "The extreame". I think some shop in Austin made the video, but can't remember for sure now.

For the amount of $$ spent on that Lingenfelter... . it had better go 9's.

To me turbo/supercharged/big-shot NOS... . big-blocks are not very impressive.

People often forget that the 'ricers' are squeezing some of the most impressive HP-to cubic inch ratios out there.

A 3. 0L 24-valve I-6 making 1800hp is insane. A 1000hp 7. 4L is not very impressive... .

I will admit, however that it still is the big-cubic inches that is making the most overall HP... . top fuel, funny car, etc.

Gotta love what the 'ricers' can do with technology...

Matt

I just came back from teaching 2 days of driving schools in Puerto Rico, and got the chance to drive some pretty nasty metal. How about a stripped down 300hp WRX with big brakes and sticky tires??!! That little car is a hoot... I jumped into a Porsche 993. . it sure looked stock (no wings, nothing fancy on the outside) and pulled the trigger comming onto the straight -- holy StarWars, Batman!!! 550hp twin turbo hiding in there!! Drove a Z06 Corvette... pretty neat, too. Sorry, but I dont know what all the fuss is about the now-defunct Supra... it's too heavy to stop or turn, and isnt THAT what cars are supposed to do?

Brian

Yeah the Modded Busa shows the Supra whats up :D. Have you seen any videos from a guy called SW? I have a vid of him in his supra running a 9. 83@153 on drag radials with a 1. 77 60ft lol. :--)

The Supra handles just fine on dry roads.....

Handling is nice, but I have been talking purely straight-line stones to the wall acceleration... . 1320ft. style.

C'mon... that 1800 horse 3 liter is a all out race motor. If that's the case then it can't come close to comparing to the 7000 bhp of a 500 cid 16 valve top fueler. Heck, Pro stock cars make about 1400 naturally aspirated.

That 3 liter I-6 is a heck of a lot more streetable than any 1800hp big-block..... There are MANY 900+hp 2JZ cars out there that are driven on the roads every day... .

There are not too many streetable big/small blocks out there that are as smooth as the 2JZ I-6.

How many big-blocks do you know of that can rev reliably to 8,000rpm with a bone stock bottom end? How many big-blocks come right off the showroom floor with titanium valves, forged pistons, forged crank, and billet rods?

The most beautiful part is that shortblocks from Toyota are right around $2k... . not bad!

We're not comparing apples to apples, however let's not discount the capabilities of such a small displacement engine. I do agree that the same technology applied to more cubic inches would result in a similar impressive result... . that's a given.

TMTT: I never got a ride in that WRX!!!! :D

Matt

Sorry Jr. I just couldn't hang on to it (Even after I bombed it with a Scoobysport 3 inch pre and post turbo full exhaust. and the Morette lamps as well :{ :{ I mean look at her ... . I miss it bad! COME BAACk PLeaase

it doesnt need to tow the boatsi n the background,it can zig zag around them very quickly, and those boats in the background would need to be moved with a semi, those things are way to big for a CTD(well the one in the Ram anyway.

Uhh Snow ... ... The Yard truck is a Flatbed Dodge H. O. But you are right MOST of the boats there can't be on U. S highways anyways   But the ones who can Semi's

one last post to seal it off

I have a 69 nova that runs in the 10s ,I DRIVE IT ON THE STREET EVER DAY IT COOKS, ALL THES RICE BURNERS WITH JUST A TAP OF THE THOTTLE, So why do you guy think that a very steetable car cant achieve these huge number. By golly the poor thing is a four door,Yes it weighs 3600 lbs,Yes it takes alot of HPS to put her down the track!Dont get me wrong Ive got an old gut buster toyota that has 400,000 miles on it . (the chink have very good smarts) But what gives me a woody is pushing my 7800lbs, Truck at these same speeds.
