OK -- newbie and a dumb *** here--I performed the first 4 oil changes myself (and like the dumb *** that i am--- I didn't keep the receipts) (I have the dates). Exactly how screwed am I ??? I'm having fuel in the sump problems and the dealer wants to see receipts before
he'll do any Warranty work. Any advice would greatly be appreciated

If you bought the oil and filters with a credit card, you can show the date and place the purchase was made and probably even get a reprint of the receipt. I belong to multiple auto rewards programs and can easily look up when, what and where I purchased all my maintenance supplies. All my online purchases from various places also provide purchase histories (Amazon, PureDieselPower, etc). I keep a log book for each of my vehicles with fuel and maintenance entries which should also suffice. I even clip the UPC code from the oil, fuel, and air filters and write a date and mileage on them. If you paid cash for the oil change supplies and don't remember where and when you purchased the items, you might be SOL. All your filters should have date codes stamped on them, but might not help if they were old when purchased. I always buy my auto supplies with the newest date codes.

Don't know for sure, but would think the EVIC keeps tabs on oil resets. However, the dealership could argue that you just did a reset without actually doing the change.

What does fuel in the sump have to do with oil changes? Unless you are doing a lot of idling . I have had that problem and an injector or fuel line is usually the problem.

I would agree with Jacknife. Ask the dealer what oil changes have to do with oil level rising. Also you probably know the mileage since last oil change, so pull a sample and send it in to show the oil is still in good condition. In addition since every oil has it's own signature you can prove with the sample that the oil you say is in there is in fact the correct oil, besides having useful life left.

Thanks for the comeback --- Ipaid cash--- guess I'm old fashion and now SOL.

Thanks for the comeback--- Oil analysis said I had diesel fuel in the crankcase--- Took it to the dealer for warranty work and he wouldn't touch it unless I had "Receipts" and dates for required maintenance-- I can come up with the dates but I'm OOL for receipts

Speaking from experience with the '14 Durango in my sig, I would shop around for another dealer. I wound up leaving the selling dealer for another who was much more understanding of a noise issue I had, and was just much better to deal with.
Any tech who's been around neglected/ abused engines knows the difference, and should be understanding. I bend the plastic when I buy my stuff, and I save the box tops with the date code and write my info along with the brand of oil I used that time on it.
How many miles do you have anyway?

The Fuel in the oil has zero to do with oil change. Do you have any prior analysis ? Go to a Cummins shop and talk to a line Mechanic . Google up causes for fuel in oil of Diesel engines. Tell that Jerk service writer to pound sand. You don' t have to prove your oil change, they have to show there is a connection between the oil change interval and how it relates to a fuel in oil situation to deny a warranty claim. Oil related failures have to do with bearings , cams , ring ,etc not fuel in oil unless you are doing excessive idling then you can get cylinder wash. With electronic fuel injectors and the ECM it is a rare happening . Go to another dealer or call Ram customer service

Wasn't fuel in the oil a major issue with 2007.5 to 2012 6.7's that required more frequent oil changes, sometimes as low as 3500 miles? SNOKING

do you know any mechanics?

I have a friend who is a mechanic... I do all my own oil changes but have him write up a reciept to document the date / mileage and so on when the change was done.

If it were mine I would change the oil at a shop so you have a receipt, reset the oil life monitor, and do another sample at 3,000 miles. Then it should have about 3.5% which is getting near when it should be changed. Save the receipts and oil sample and show the dealer again. On a 2012 depending on your duty cycle it can load the crankcase up with fuel from active regenerations. It may be perfectly normal.

And don't worry, 7% isn't going to ruin the engine. The early 2007.5's would turn the oil change light on around 5% (verified by oil sample) on most trucks.

I have a 15 with 6300 miles I change every six months regardless of mileage requirements. However I don't take to selling dealer they want 212.00 for oil change, dealer next town over 85.00 for conventional and 119.00 synthetic. I guess I bought at the wrong dealer sales price isn't everything. next week fuel filters over 100.00 difference between dealers.
