Took the truck in today for a leaky transmission and the dealer said the 100k mi engine drivetrain warranty only applies to the MOTOR, not the drivetrain. Are they feeding me a line of bull or is this true? (Seems odd that they would say "engine/drivetrain warranty" but only make it apply to the motor.

Q. for ronsram1999

Ron- I see in your sig that you saw a 2. 3 mpg increase after changing the IAT sensor. At what mileage did you do this? My mileage is not very good (average 14-15 mpg although I do stick my foot in it whenever I get the chance), is the IAT something I should be looking at with my mileage being at around 27k? When did you change yours? Did you try the clean/tighten scenario first, and/or did you do the impedance test that Marco suggested first and get bad readings? Thanks for any info.

zman

zman,

I changed the IAT somewhere around 26,000-30,000 miles, I thought I had it in my maintenance records but it's not there. I did not have a good meter so I just cleaned it and reinstalled, it made no difference, I figured what the heck is $23. 00 so I just replaced it, and what you see in my signature is the results. I did notice about 1 MPG maybe 2 on a very very good day driveing unloaded but the towing impressed me. I would say that 14-15 is a little low, (some will say really low) alot depends on driveing style. I use to get a constant 15-16 in the summer before the IAT change and 14-15 in the winter before the IAT change. This winter I get a constant 15-16 MPG last summer I got 16-18 MPG. I run #2 diesel year around so it is not the fuel. These numbers are also without the comp timeing box, I have not driven enough with it yet to get a good reading. I did not see any increase in mileage when I installed the stage 1's but the power was up.

azcummins, Yes sir I do, as far as looks and function of the dually all I can say is Oo. Oo.

I looked for a symbol with drool but couldn't find one.

Drivers side of engine between fuel filter and fire wall there are two sensor it is the one closest to the fire wall, if memory serves me, I can go look if you want to be sure but there are only two back there MAP and IAT.

Ron

azcummins,

I like that last sentence in your signature, I'll have to remember that the next time I'am around the ford guys. :)

Ron-

thanks! I told that to my girlfriend who drives an "exploder" and she rolled her eyes. Her family is 100% PHORD so they didn't know what to think of me! :)

(Once we get married, {NOT YET FIREMAN DAVE! :D } I'm getting a CTD. She loves the diesel sound, smell and power. YEE HAWW!

Hey fella's Hope you don't mind helpin a rookie Cummins owner. I am totally new at all this, and need expertice of you veterens . I would like to know what the IAT sensor is, and what changing it might do for mine. Also the deal with no silencer ring on turbo, is new to me. What gains are there without it? As far as feul mileage goes, I would be tickled pink with 14-15 mpg, as I am only getting 11 loaded or empty. I hope I don't have to totaly blame the 4:10 gears, Do I? Any help would be apreciated.

Also I don't know my way around in the TDR website either, so please bear with me. I did'nt know how to set up a signature, so I'll add it here.

If you haven't seen or heard of Marco on here, you will. This is his baby and he was the originator. The above explains it pretty well.

As far as the silencer ring goes, removing it does nothing performance-wise, some people (me included) remove it because you can better hear the turbo spool-up (whistling) and WE LIKE IT!! It does nothing good or bad to your truck or for performance.

Do a search on 'silencer ring' on here and I'm sure you'll find all the information and pictures you'd ever care to see on removing it.

I seriously doubt it's simply your rear that is ruining your fuel mileage. Do some serious reading on these boards and you'll find information about tightening all kinds of things to improve fuel mileage, especially at 41k on your rig a whole lotta things have probably worked their way loose. Clamps and bolts and etc. oh my! Lots of things can affect the mileage on these trucks including the IAT sensor, hence the whole discussion about it. Hope that helps.

ronsram1999- Thanks for the input. Been trying to get to cleaning/changing mine but busy working to pay for this toy!

This web site is awsome. Great folks on it . Thanks for the feedback, I'll be using the info. And, I know what you mean by working to pay for the toy.

I guess I'll have to ask anouther question though. " How do you get those funny little faces to appear on your messages?"

I guess you know by now where my skills on the computer are at.
