I'm no lawyer but it would not be hard to prove in your case, when you mess with the fuel program and melt a piston. However any unrelated repair claims might work in court. Dodge should deny warranty in your case of the piston melt down. I would be careful of a lawsuit, when you have to pay their legal fees as well as your own when you lose.

First off I want to say that I am not shocked that Dodge has denied my warrenty, If you would look at my truck you would know that I am not a guy that likes my stuff stock. If DC looked out the window of their office they could deny my warrenty. I like to do what ever I want with my truck, and I am willing to pay for what ever I do or want to do to my truck.

But what is shocking is that when I went to the dealer to have them check with their scan tool to see what cylinder it was. The first thing that showed up was an unknow ECM number? This is caused by a (other than DC) reflash programmer, so I am shocked at that. Because when I talked with Bully Dog (before I bought) I was told that there is no way DC will be able to see any history of the programmer in the ECM. I guess that they were off.

Kbennet- I am not saying that Dodge should cover my motor, but I am saying that I don't care to be lied to by Bully Dog. And I want people to know that if you think that you are safe running a programmer that you better watch out!

And now I will start doing the mods that I have always planned for the truck..... cam, port, new valves, seats, coated pistons..... etc...

Thanks for all of your replies, I will do some posting of my motor build up.

I agree with Sno that B. D. , or any other aftermarket company should be very clear that the mod will void the warranty. It seems a lot of trucks are running some mods and not much warranty issues? could it be "nice" dealers, or just very little engine failure? Will trying the free "tri buy" kill the warranty if the box is not purchased? Doc

Snoxracer.

Thanks for the heads up regarding the programmer AND how it was detected. I agree with your position about the box manufacturers make us believe that no detection is possible, when in fact there are probably many ways detection could occur.

While I do not have any intention of adding any power programmers, I have been following these posts with great interest. Thus far, the one theme that seems to be constant in most all cases is inherent problems with the #5 cylinder. This to me should be viewed as a place to watch for failures down line in a stock engine. Regardless of the additional power enhancements, this engine under constant loads has a known breaking point.

i have battled dodge plenty with warranty issues. and the bottem line is thay have to prove the mods /chip/box or whatever caused the problem. ive been in front of a judge with dodge 3 times and won . and i sure as heck dont feel bad !!!!!!!!!! texas has strict laws over voidied warrantys. and im by god gonna use them. education is the key to battle . ive got lots of research on voided warranty issues.

You ARE correct, education IS the key to the battle. Even the discussions here on this site, and those on other sites, while considered heresay, ARE examples of those things that can win your position regarding failures that SHOULD be covered under a manufacturers warranty. When an aftermarket product claims it will not affect your warranty, and does, then that aftermarket company should be responsible to repair your vehicle OR prove itself in it's claims and join you in your fight for your warranty rights. Obviously, there does seem to be an inherent problem regarding these engines when put to stress tests that may/or may within the specs of capability, and all of this becomes so muddled that we DO need some clarity as to responsibility.

Man I hate to post in a warranty thread, but I never have followed better judgement. With my mods, I doubt that there is anything in my engine or drivetrain that has a DC warranty any longer. I knew the first time I plugged in a small pressure box that I was subject to DC Warranty denial. Those of us that choose this path pretty much understand the risk.

The first night when I read the Owner's Manual I think I remember seeing numerous Void Warranty warnings. Every performance enhancing product I have purchased(9 boxex/downloaders) has had a Warning statement page or two that specifically stated use at your own risk, could void vehicle warranty and the product manufacturer was NOT liable for any damage.

Pretty sure removing the CAT is all that is necessary for manufacturer to pretty much wash their hands of responsibility regardless of perfomance products or any other reason, until the vehicle meets original emission equipment standard. In cases where there is a valid question of why the failure occured, then if you have the deep pockets and fortitude to fight the manufacturer do it. For those that want to be able to add products that you know will void the warranty if found and still want all warranty work done without a hassle or fight, reality can be a painful thing.

I just want to make it clear that I understand what can and can not void warrenties, but the point that I want to make is that BULLY DOG flat out lied to me over the phone by saying that their programmers were unditectable buy dodge. I understand that my warrenty is in my own hands when I modify my truck.

Thanks
