Ok, so this morning I jumped on the freeway and by the time I got to the end of the ramp, truck sputtered and died. At first, it freaked me out as it felt just like when the VP died a little over a year ago! Anyway, I tried starting it, and noticed the FP Gauge was at maybe 2-3 and I could tell I wasnt getting pressure. Gauge said I had a 1/4 tank of fuel, but soon discovered it was empty when I banged on the tank to see if somthing got stuck on the pick up tube again. Well, It sounded pretty empty. So, just a note to those of you that got rid of the filter assembly on the sending unit, dont go lower than 1/4 tank, as it causes you to lose the ability to get the last little bit of fuel of the bottom of the tank.

ANYWAY, my question is this, I had 1/2 gallon of Powerservice additive, and 1 quart of 2 cycle oil in the truck, I poured that in the tank, bled the injectors and it fired right up, and got me to the fuel station a couple miles down the freeway. (got me with in a mile at least... then I just coasted the rest of the way... I was impressed that it rolled that well, that far, on mainly flat ground!

Anyway, was that a bad idea to do, or do ya think I will be fine?

Well... . I donno... . that's probably a case of... .

Time will tell!

Sorry to hear about that man. So far *knock on wood* I have never run out of fuel or gas. (watch next week I'll run the bike out!)

Cowboy,

As I understand your post, you had a quarter tank (maybe 7 gallons) of fuel in your tank that was unusable. Then you added the half gallon of additive and quart of 2-stroke oil. Is that right?

If so, then it seems to me that you will be fine. I don't know what goes into the additives, but they are obviously supposed to be added to fuel and improve it. Two-stroke oil is also obviously meant to be burned.

My guess is that you are fine, especially since you only ran the engine for a few minutes on that mixture.

I don't know enough about the subject to offer an authorative opinion, but if it were my truck, I wouldn't worry about it.

Good luck,

Loren

Are you saying that removing the in tank strainer caused this?. If so I am not to sure I get this one. Maybe the pickup housing that moves up and down was hung up?. I have read about the sliding housing problems before on previous posts and people have run out of fuel. Maybe Vulcans new super sucker is a good idea although that would not help a hung slider unit giving a false fuel level.

I don't think I would put that much additive in the tank. Additives contain cleaners which are very aggressive. A little goes a long way. A high concentration could actually cause problems.

Personally I don't use any additive except a very occasional dose of biocode. In 110,000 miles I have never had a problem of any kind with fuel. I have never even had a drop of water in the separator.

I'm not convinced the 2 stroke oil has any real benefits either. Not everything that sounds like a good idea actually is. Mateials compatibility is often not given a thought.

Not much of a choice.

I dout you really hurt anything. The PS bottle, IIRC, says you can use more than the recommended does without harm.

That's true, but then they are selling it. And they know it would be very hard for you to prove in court that their snake oil really caused your problem.

FWIW

Not saying that I am a complete believer in 2-stroke oil, but I do use it. My concern was the unpredictable lubricity of diesel that I was buying and that there was no refinery standard. The mixture I use is about 200:1 in every tank for about 5000 miles. When I changed my injectors they looked no different than if I had ran straight diesel.
