OK - I know what I'm doing after on Christmas....

Christmas Memories - That Magical First BOMBing Accessory

Took the wife's Tundra in for an oil change the other day and the dealer called me during the day. He was asking if I wanted them to do a "hot chemical engine flush". I said "Never heard of it... what is it?" Basically they flush the engine with hot oil and chemicals to clean it out, then fill it with fresh oil. They wanted $100 to do it, I told them no thanks. Never done it on any other cars or trucks I owned, and they all ran fine. The Tundra has 52K miles on it, is it something to do just once in a while?
Otherwise, they seemed pretty reputable.

Thanks... ... . Steve

I think that I would have to pass on that service. Dealers are always trying to come up with new ways to make a few bucks.

Engine flushes can be bad. Many of them have detergents that can strip the babbott from main bearings. Think about it if it can claim it can remove carbon (one of the worlds strongest substances) what else can it remove? Engine oil has much more detergent in it that is truthfully needed so don't buy into it.

Wow, excellent point I never thought of.

I was taught not to use engine flushes because they remove beneficial carbon deposits from the rings, which can lead to oil consumption.
