We have a front load kenmore washer that now has broken glass in it:eek:

My wife had a light bulb packed in the clothes for safe keeping... yep you guessed it- it's now in pieces in the washer.

We cleaned out what we could but when I spin the drum I can hear pieces in there. I have no idea how to take it apart, where to clean, or if I should even attempt to do it myself. Any advice would be appreciated!

You may want to try to run it through one wash cycle with nothing in the drum, and see if the machine will purge the glass by itself. That may save a lot of unnceessary work and expense. The fragments are so fragile they should go right through the pump if necessary.

I was thinking that, since any pieces that made it through the drum would be tiny, but I don't know anything about washers and don't know how easy they are to mess up.

We have a 3 y/o front load whirlpool (same as kenmore) and had a noise that sounded like a bearing failure during spin cycle. Sounded real bad. After 3 months of being to cheap to fix it my son found an ink pin just inside the door at the rubber boot seal. Problem solved.
I can fix almost any dryer or stove. Washing machines usually work till the transmission fails so I have not had any chance to tear into one.
What I would think, check around the seal for glass. Look around the edges real good. If glass fragments get caught in the plumbing or pump they will catch lint which will clog the plumbing system. Pull the back cover to inspect plumbing. Pull any hoses to check for glass. Might keep a pump impeller from getting damaged.
The good side to this is, your wife can never again chew you out for leaving an ink pen in your shirt pocket.
