Ok, here is today's problem. I don't have a boost guage installed yet and I need to find out if my wastegate is functioning properly. Today while changing the fluids in the Diff's I had it up on the rack and I was looking at the wastegate and actuator. Am I supposed to be able to move it by hand when the engine is not running, because it won't! Also, if it is stuck I hope it is in the closed position, does any body know which positon is closed? right now the rod is at a 90 degree angle to the square arm that it connects to. Does the actuator pull it to open or push it to open? If it is stuck what is the best way to repair it? Or should I say cheapest. Any help with this would be appreciated! Thanks, Jeremy.

Killer59,
Your wastegate sounds normal. You shouldn't be able to move it with your hand. There is a very stiff spring pulling it closed. Once the boost builds up, the arm will extend out of the round diaphram and push the wastegate open.

Is there any way to check it, before I waste my money buying the new turbo boost fitting to increase my boost? By the way, chris have you checked your E-mail?

According to the manual you apply pressure to the line going to the wastegate. At 28-29lbs it should come open.

If you use compressed air to check the operation of the wastegate as Champ describes, don't exceed 30 psi. I've known two people who have blown out the wastegate diaphragm by over pressurizing it. It is the recomended way to do it though.

I would like to thank everyone for their input. I have checked it out and everything seems to work correctly, tommorow I have a reputable shop here that is going to set my timing to the correct advance. Hopefully I'll see a difference. Thanx everyone!

19 psi and it should open, I didn't carefully look at your signature, maybe you have added to the TST plate and or/boost orifice at which your wastegate would open with 30-35 psi.

Good luck. Andy
