How to erase trans codes

OK, being a 12 valve guy, here is my first time with this problem on the HPCR.

This truck, an '04 HO, got a bad batch of fuel, lots of water. Still runs, although badly. Only code is P0088 and one for water in fuel sensor. My plan is to start with the tank, clean etc. and move forward. Going to replace FCA, rail, lift pump, filter housing maybe, new sticks and tubes. Will I be lucky and not have to replace the inj pump and lines?

I know what the dealer recommended repair is, but will try to save the customer some bucks.

Enough water will make the injector stick open or closed. if u have lots of smoke with a miss then i would say they possibly broke a ring and ruined the cylinder. check compression. if no smoke but missing they got lucky and u need to diag it and repair the injector. i would recommend all 6 because water will cause rust and galling of the others and will be a problem later. look into xx-fuel for better filtering.

agreed, why throw a ton of money at it when it could just be as simple as a fuel filter? I do like the idea of all them new parts so you know what you have but if you can save some money I would start small then work up.

The amount and time is what you need to be concern about,if the truck has signs of water in filter (WIF) light it is very likely that the Pump internals are corroded. Have the pump tore done and inspected By someone who knows what to look for,if pump looks good its unlikely the injectors will need replacing, their are tolerances just as tight in the pump as injectors. If pump is bad most likely the injectors are Also.

The typical warranty scenario is drain\clean the tank, flush all the lines to the CP-3, then replace EVERYTHING from the CP-3 to the injectors. Thats $6500-$8000 depending on who and where. :(

Like TDC said, its a matter of how long the water has been going thru. You maybe able to drain and clean the tank, flush as much of the bad stuff out of the CP-3, rail and lines, then, heavy dose the fuel with Power Service and 2 stroke oil for several tanks.

Don't forget to flush the head return gallery and clean or replace the orfice in the back of the head. If it plugs it will blow the tops off those brand new injectors and really ruin your day.

If your on the hook for the results you don't have much choice but to replace everything. If the customer is willing to chance it then just flush as good as possible and dose the fuel heavy. You can always replace the parts later if needed.

FYI, the P0088 is rail pressure sensor not liking life. Likely will need one of those expensive buggers and a PRV at a minimum.

Thanks, that is the first I have heard of an orfice in the back of the head. Must be the fuel return. BTW, this will probably be an insurance covered item. Will find out Monday.

If the agent knows his stuff and the factory system has been alter Coverage May be denied. I've work with insurance companies often and the 1st question they ask " factory system Intact or Alter in any way form or shape"

This is 1 reason I am so adamant about companies that instruct owners to remove the factory setup. I always have been able to overcome all obstacles except the factory Canister being removed or ALTERED after canister.

Are you saying that any alterations to the factory fuel system, after and including the factory fuel filter, will not only cause the factory warranty to be denied, but also give your insurance company a reason to not pay on a bad fuel issue, even if you have a receipt?

Yep... It's Not My standards,But I see why they (Insurance Companies) denied coverage. Some china spin-ons are not more then rock catchers,Some setups raise the Pressure Double or triples the filters Max PSI. just blow the trash right through even Quality filters.

If I cut in a 2 micron fuel filter between the cp3 and the factory filter, my warranty and / or insurance claim will probably be denied? How can this be, when so many have done this to their trucks on the forums? Don't the insurance companies understand, we are making the truck better?

No they don't. . Here's the Problem ... maybe the contamination occurred when installing the additional unit. In that case its No longer Comprehensive. . it May be cover under some other area of coverage but the comp claim may be denied.

Bingo! If you have a secondary filter setup after the stock filter, every time you spin it off and install a new one and tighten it down you are introducing crap right straight to the pump and injectors. That's why we like the frame mount ones underneath. All the maintenance you do, the stock filter catches downstream. We use the Cummins CAT Fuel Filter Kit on all our company trucks. I see you can now get it with a BF1212 water separator too.

That is a good explanation of the need to install any extra filters before the factory filter. BUT, I noted that the kit does NOT have a fuel heater. How do they expect you to start the truck when the temp is less than 10*f. and the fuel waxes the filter.
