Attention: TDR Forum Junkies
To the point: Click this link and check out the Front Page News story(ies) where we are tracking the introduction of the 2025 Ram HD trucks.

Thanks, TDR Staff

I need better things to do with my time.

Light Plane vs. Ram?

Sorry to post something not directly related but I have always wondered about the stuff and when I got this I thought you guys might also be interested. I know I have used it on my truck

They mention a few uses I would never consider

Anyhow, Water Displacement #40

WD-40 - Incredible Uses

Would you like a gallon? WD-40 Although it is famous throughout the world, WD-40 is somewhat of a mystery.

Who thought of it? Who invented it? What is it? The product began from a search for a rust preventative

solvent and de-greaser to protect missile parts. WD-40 was created in 1953 by three technicians at the San Diego Rocket Chemical Company.

It's name comes from the project that was to find a "water displacement" compound. They were successful

with the fortieth formulation, thus WD-40.

The Corvair Company bought it in bulk to protect their Atlas missile parts. The workers were so pleased with

the product, they began smuggling (also known as "shrinkage" or "stealing") it out to use at home. The executives

decided there might be a consumer market for it and put it in aerosol cans. The rest, as they say, is history.

It is a carefully guarded recipe known only to four people. Only one of them is the "brewmaster. " There are

about 2. 5 million gallons of the stuff manufactured each year. It gets its distinctive smell from a fragrance

that is added to the brew. Ken East says there is nothing in WD-40 that would hurt you.

Here are some of the uses:

*******************************

Protects silver from tarnishing

Cleans and lubricates guitar strings

Gets oil spots off concrete driveways

Gives floors that 'just-waxed' sheen without making it slippery

Keeps flies off cows

Restores and cleans chalkboards

Removes lipstick stains

Looses stubborn zippers

Untangles jewelry chains

Removes stains from stainless steel sinks

Removes dirt and grime from the barbecue grill

Keeps ceramic/terra cotta garden pots from oxidizing

Removes tomato stains from clothing

Keeps glass shower doors free of water spots

Camouflages scratches in ceramic and marble floors

Keeps scissors working smoothly

Lubricates noisy door hinges on vehicles and doors in homes

Gives a children's play gym slide a shine for a super fast slide

Lubricates gear shift and mower deck lever for ease of handling on riding mowers

Rids rocking chairs and swings of squeaky noises

Lubricates tracks in sticking home windows and makes them easier to open

Spraying an umbrella stem makes it easier to open and close

Restores and cleans padded leather dashboards in vehicles, as well as vinyl bumpers

Restores and cleans roof racks on vehicles

Lubricates and stops squeaks in electric fans

Lubricates wheel sprockets on tricycles, wagons and bicycles for easy handling

Lubricates fan belts on washers and dryers and keeps them running smoothly

Keeps rust from forming on saws and saw blades, and other tools . We're not through. Here's more:

**************************************

Removes splattered grease on stove

Keeps bathroom mirror from fogging

Lubricates prosthetic limbs

Keeps pigeons off the balcony (they hate the smell)

Removes all traces of duct tape

I have even heard of folks spraying it on their arms, hands, knees, etc. ,to relieve arthritis pain.

One guy claims spraying it on fishing lures attracts fish.

Other "States" uses:

***********************

Georgia and Alabama's favorite use was that it "penetrates stuck bolts,

lug nuts, and hose ends.

Florida's favorite use was, cleans and removes love bugs from grills and bumpers.

California's favorite use was penetrating the bolts on the Golden Gate Bridge.

Let me close with one final, wonderful use--the favorite use in the State

of New York--WD-40 protects the Statue of Liberty from the elements.

No wonder they have had 50 successful years.

I new a fellow that used to run a AC truck and cheat on his wife. He would come home late and he would spray WD40 all over his clothes to mask the smell of his girl friends perfume and then make a bee line for the shower.

WD-40 promotes adultery!?!? What next!

Yeah, you would have had to know him to understand.

I would not consider using that stuff on many of those suggestions like plastic or mirror but it is pretty good to know you can.

I always seem to mess up the top or loose the little plastic spray tips.

Lately I have been buying the little can that is about the size of two D battery's. It lasts me a long time.

I keep a small can in my tackle box to lubricate my fishing reel ;) , but I have also found that if you spray it on your hands it masks your scent and the fish seem to like the smell of it too, I heard that one of the ingredients was fish oil. :D I learned that trick from a good ol' boy, he would spray it right on the worms, I figure that sprying it on my hands is alot more environmentally friendly. Strange but true!

wd 40 and adultry

My understanding is that wd40 is not the same as a few years back. Some enviromental issues. I still use the stuff quite a lot.

As to the adultry, I don't know about that but a long since dead machinist friend told me this poem years ago.

Here is to stolen moments,

though I know that stealing is wrong.

After the moments are stolen,

to whom do they really belong.

If your neighbor had a basket of apples,

and left them out to rot,

And someone took and ate one,

would you blame them, certainly not.

So if you have some apples wasting

You can bet likely as not,

There will be some one save the wasting

and keep them from the rot.

So the moments that have been stolen

may be wrong or right,

I just think about the apples

when I go to bed at night.

HOWEVER, even though I, too, make extensive use of WD-40 :), it is not a be-all, end-all! It leaves a residue that remains after the volotiles (sp?) evaporate that can gum things up. For example, WD-40 is NOT the product of choice for firearms, and any othe 'fine' mechanisms for this reason.

Just another example of using the right tool for the job!!

ROFLMAO!! Keeps flies off cows?? HAHA Nice, I'm gona try it on the "old lady" next time we go camping to see if it works against mosquitoes too! Lol

James(1stgen4ever)... that is a cool poem... speaking of that i think im gona have to fertilize my apple tree in the back yard, I've had it for three years with no apples ;) Lol how about them apples

The wife of a buddy of mine who owns a Wrecking Yard swears on WD-40 to remove grease stains from jeans. She just sprays it on she says.

QUOTE "The Corvair Company bought it in bulk to protect their Atlas missile parts. "

:--)

I never knew that Corvair made missle parts! Or should that have been Convair? :D

I use it on the mercury outboard motor on my boat. Takes off the water spots and shines it up good.

You need two fruit trees to produce fruit

Hunter 4x4 is correct on this one. I make lots of money on cleaning guns that have been sprayed with WD40. It will turn to a glue type of substance and nothing will cut it. All parts have to be buffed to get it off. If it does this on guns, you can bet it does the same thing on everything else. That is why you have to keep using it and they sell so much of the stuff. It gums up in about 3 to 4 months.

If WD40 gets grease out of clothes they why wash clothes in soap and water?

Don't use the stuff and never will!!!!!

Ok,,,, ALL you guys have too much time on your hands, in fact, I am seriously starting to believe you have NO lives either... :D:D:D

This puppy is being moved to the "OTHER" forum... geezzzz. . ;):D
