Whitehorse and back

I just got back from an interesting drive from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory. The purpose of the trip was to move my daughter up there to start a new job. I had her car and some of her things in a trailer and the rest on the back of the truck.

We left Saskatoon on Tuesday the 29th around 10:30 AM. We stayed for night in Grande Prairie, Alberta. We joined the Alaska Highway at Dawson Creek, British Columbia the next morning and arrived at Whitehorse, YT around 9 PM Pacific time.

I put around 5500 kms on the truck in around 90 hours. The highway was excellent, the scenery spectacular, the cummins-music to my ears.

The picture if I can get it on is at Summit Lake in Northern BC on the Alaska Highway.

PS when I previewed my post the picture does come up so I guess that will not work.

Mother of ALL Loads!

When I was in Alberta last summer I saw a Ram Cummins hauling a load like I've never seen posted in TDR! If only I had a camera!

It was between Whitecourt and Fox Creek Alberta (about 120 miles West of Edmonton) this guy in a red quadcab dually had what appeared to be a Caterpillar D6 loaded onto a TRIPLE dually axle trailer

I don't know what a Cat D6 weighs but that combined with the trailer has to be 40,000+ easily. Add the weight of the dwarfed Dodge Cummins pulling this load we could be talking 50,000 pounds! True to form, he was doing at least 60mph, up a slight grade of course :D

By the way, Cummins power RULES the highway between Edmonton and Grand Prarie!

Vaughn

EDIT: After making this post I went to Cat's website and studied the pictures, this looks closest to what I saw. It could've been a D5 but it looks too light. This D6R weighs in at 40,400 lbs
