There is not really room under the seat for the gun safes I have looked at. I have found one company that makes a unit that fits in the lower console box, but they are very proud of it, around $250, to be exact.

What have you done for those few times when you are not actually carrying?

(If ya don't want to post here in public, send me a pm and we can discuss via email)

:D:-laf:D:-lafI've considered bolting a G. E. Mini Gun to the A. C mounting holes on the side of the block, aimed through the grill using a fake intake in the grill to hide the muzzles? Trouble is, I always fry the PCM when I turn on the "Heads Up" display:rolleyes: :D:-laf Just kidding. A little "hangmans humor", actually, very little:eek:. Greg

wow greg, im having the same trouble mounting my M901A1 TOW 2 A/T setup in my bed..... something should be done about this... . lol

JGamble, Yer right! I think we need a dedicated aiming computer for the "heads up" display and an upgrade in armament. I was thinking about a 30 MM Gatling Gun from a "Wart Hog", belly slung under the driverside to fire between the axle and the bumper. May have to invest in a lift kit:-laf Course, the TOW system would work great. Just need to train the Wifey to climb in the back and remove the tarp before we fire itOo. GregH

I have the center console in mine and when I leave the heat in the truck I just put it in the tray in the center and cover it with a glove or paper towel, etc. I know that's not much for security if someon breaks into the truck. There's room under the seat for a small metal box, maybe you could get a sheet metal shop or even someone on here to fab a box just large enough to hold the piece. bg

RideSlow,

Not to get into your lane but have you checked the Penal code for transporting weapons in your state? In California a center console/glove box is a "no go" for transporting a weapon. Locked in a toolbox in the bed is good to go.

Yeah, I hear you. My feeling is that a gun locked up in a box in the bed is of no value to me defensively if I should ever need it. I kinda believe in the old saying "I'd rather be judged by twelve than carried by six". bg

You're absolutely right. It is definitely slower to get to the ready if it is locked in the toolbox. I wanted to point out the Penal code issue 'cuz I would hate to see someone who is trying to be responsible get arrested and have their pistol destroyed (in California anyway)for unkowingly running afoul of weapon laws.

thankfully in TX it's legal to concealed carry in your vehicle :)

I had the Console Vault brand in my '04 and loved it. I always ride with it underneath the center arm rest, but when I would have to park the truck somewhere like the airport or what have you, it was nice to have locking storage right there.

the vault won't fit my 06 :(

check out cabella's, theyve got gun locker you tuck under seat, has cable lock to keep it there. seemed simple enough.

250. 00 isn't much to protect an average carry gun now that there 600. 00-800. 00 or more .
And a few mags full of decent ammo is another 75. 00 or more and a holster is 60. 00-100. 00.

Also a stolen gun in my state usually means loss of all gun rites forever... .

I don't leave my weapons unattended in the vehicle. If I'm going somewhere where I can't carry it, I leave it at home. I know the gun does me no good at home, but the simple facts are that you can't bring them everywhere. When I travel with my RV they are in there if I'm not carrying.

99. 9% of the time, it is on my person. I am a firm believer in bringing a gun to a gunfight. I only leave it in the truck in very unusual situations, like after driving cross country, then leaving town for a few days, and the house where it is parked is for sale. I left it in the truck. I really like the way the Console Vault looks, was hoping someone might have a similar idea a handy dude could cobble together.

My wife is the person that actually wants weaponry truck mounted. I will take the suggestions on calibre and mounting seriously, and get back to you. Ya gotta love a lady that is happy that her carry weapon has a bigger magazine than mine!

AMEND!!!!!

My wife's parents are to blame. They taught her that firearms are bad. I told her it's the person that's bad.

Our Daughters house was broken into, mid morning no one home, and some things taken. Daughter thinks she came back and the "perps" where still inside and bailed out the back window as she entered. She now wants a piece but her mother says NO! I say YES!

Sorry for the hijack. Got the emotions charged up again.

shootin people over stuff insurance will replace? not w/ lethal force... shooting people that are trying to hurt my family or me? They will be answering to my 12ga remington 870 long tube (6 in the tube, 1 in the chamber)

Not sure how mechanical you are but if I really wanted to secure a handgun in my vehicle, I would build a security system myself.

My simple solution would be to mount/weld a steel stud/bolt to a steel plate and attach the plate to the floor pan inside the lower console. How you attach it or how strong it will be really depends on your design. Have the stud or bolt pre-drilled to accept a lock. Use the stud placing it through the trigger guard of the weapon that you choose to secure. Place a thick washer on the stud above the weapon and then lock it. In an effort to protect the firearms finish you can rubber sleeve the stud and plastic dip the washer. It's crude but it will work. No, I haven't built one yet.

I highly recommend that if you go this route, that you use a gun that has a safety or that you clear the chamber before securing the handgun. You could injure or kill yourself or another person with an accidental discharge. Think Safety.

I agree, stuff that can be replaced is not worth a persons life, but, ( and I am the OP so we can go in a different direction) when these folks are already inside yer house, when do you decide they are only there for the stuff, and not to hurt you or your precious ones? I will grant that if they are hauling A out the back window while I come in the front door, they are not going to get lead poisoning from me.

Side note: None of my kids carry, youngest daughter is thinking about it, now that she is a mom. If she decides that she will carry, someone else will do the teaching.

Real close to what I am considering, it would be about the limit of my handy skills. I have a couple of different cable locks that would work slick like that.
