Vaughn,

I see you live in Pasco. When you are by the river that runs through town isn't the temperature less than say 8 to 10 miles away in the desert? Same thing what XJ says about town and restricted air flow and heat absorption. . .

Yes WD I think that happens to a degree but they usually take local temps at the Pasco airport which is a couple miles from the river.

I know driving west from town on Thursday my overhead showed 96 degrees, but when I got out in the sage country near Hanford it flickered between 101 and 102 for about 30 miles.

Temp readings are only a relative indicator and aren't exact science, that's for sure.

Vaughn,

No doubt about the exact science. My thermometer on my truck is only off by about 2 to 4 degrees max.

Cummins Pilot,

I have seen it a heck of a lot colder than -60 in Fairbanks. Just cause the airport doesn't get that cold doesn't mean other areas of Fairbanks doesn't. When we lived off of Freemen road in 89 or 90 the thermo hit a - 78. Even with a 10% error that is still alot colder than -60. It was so cold that the only way my 4x4 would move was to leave it in 4 wheel drive when you shut it off the night before and then you still had to rock it to get it to move. Heck, out at Eielson our thermometer outside the shop will show -65 while base weather says that it is only

-38. Something messed up there. Our thermometer isn't off by that much. By the way, did you make that meeting that they were going to have at the sears parking lot for a get togeather for a club organization?

Yeah, it was 3 of us.

I know it gets colder than -60. But not often. Generally it doesn't swing much more than that.

Eielson is always colder cause its down in the valley. Much past -20 and I can't tell a difference. At that point its cold. (and my job is outside)

My truck thermo is way off. sometimes its close but most of the time its not even close.

How about this smoke though. This really sucks.

This smoke sucks the big one. I can't even see the sun through it. It has cooled off almost 30 degrees because of it and my eyes water and throat burns cause of it.

Where do you work at?

WD

Check this out: they had 27° as a low in Williston, ND last week.

It's the end of JUNE, for crying out loud. My Dad had a killing frost last week in Bismarck!!

Where are you, JJW-ND, we need your testimony.

I work for Everts Air Cargo out at the airport.

Friday night I'm heading south to ANC. Might as well visit the parents and get out of this crud for the weekend. To bad its the 4th.

I just helped my buddy move, his place is in danger of going up in smoke.

Is the smoke really bad? I saw on the news, it seems like you can hardly see 100 feet in front of you.

Visibility is 1/4-1/2mi at the airport. Not enough to really affect auto traffic. All flights are IFR for now. (keeps me grounded dang it). Verticle vis is about 400-1000 ft.

Not sure how it is now. I left last night. Needed out of it. Hopefully it clears this weekend so when I go back to work I don't have to breath it.

So it made the news in CT. wow. I'm surprised.
