*update*

I got my Davis Vantage vue from Ambient. I got all the hardware to mount the pole and it's all set up! I wanted to thank all who gave input! Excepting my wife, we've all been gawking at the display all afternoon, and just in time- there's another coastal storm coming in!

Just to update. I've had the station up and running since my last post. I've had a out temp malfunction and Davis warranted the unit without a problem.
I just received as a gift the expansion module to send readings to a PC via USB. I'm not quite ready to go full live as I'm resurrecting an old PC to dedicate to the project. I will be a station on the weather underground.

When the nights snow hasn't covered mine I like to see how close the radio station and mine are then go to the weather service box and take a look at theirs and compare them, the radio station is usually off but the weather service and mine are pretty close. The computer hook up is kind of nice it tacks the temp and changes and makes a grid chart. Pretty cool stuff.

I have an oregon wmr200. I have it connected to the computer would like to put it on the web at sometime. all the sensors are wireless and I got one solar charger for the wind and temp sensor. rain is on its own. I got this on craigslist list for $25 he had doesens of odd weather stations and we made a complete one. my old one is here but it does not work with a 64 bit computer so I will take it down and sell it. I enjoy checking it out regularly, my old one did not take the wind reading often enough and would not catch the gust like this one does. that is important I discovered.

I've had one of the Costco units and it had issues with constantly losing the connection to the sensors which were about 100' away, online reviews sucked and showed I wasn't the only one with issues so I brought it back. Was given a Walmart unit a number of years ago and the wind meter was shot in a month.

My next unit, when I buck up will be a Davis, reasonable pricing and good quality. The is the unit I'll purchase http://www.ebay.com/itm/Davis-Instruments-6250-Vantage-Vue-Wireless-Weather-Station-/131078112474?pt=US_Weather_Meters&hash=item1e84dd44da
Not the super high dollar unit but decent quality, good reviews and does everything I'll want it to do.

My old one is LaCrosse not a good unit wind speed is useless and had it replaced under warranty and still didn't perform well with out a lot of attention.

It's been great. One hiccup with the outside temp sensor- it must have went open/ shorted because it read like 170*. Davis was good about it and fronted me a replacement under warranty. Tech when I needed it was good. I'm in the process of setting up my personal weather station. I have a dedicated PC and now I'm ironing things out with wunderground.com .

Well Wayne I hope your still happy with it. I just ordered a Davis Vantage View 6250 from ambient weather. Good price if you jump through the hoops.

Wayne,

When you get set up with WU, please send a PM with the link to your station. I'll add it to my "Favorites" It'll be interesting keeping up with your weather.

Bill

Ok, Bill. I am up and running. I got an old pc going that had a fried hard drive. I put a new hd and some ram and worked out an issue with the usb but now its cookin good!
Woodenhead, if youre a weather geek like me, youll be real happy. The only advice is to pick a good location, and you have to clock it on the pole so the wind direction is right. The instructions are good.

Thanks Wayne. I'm going to mount a 10' pole on my well head which is in the field about 60' out from the front of the hose to the West side. We never get an East wind, there are no trees should make for a good spot. I'm excited.

That's good. Just make sure it's a thick enough wall pipe and good anchoring. When mine hits 20~ MPH wind speed, it does oscillate a bit.
