Allison Md3060 conversion to mecahnical DT466

Finished up the CM horse trailer so I started on another one. WW economy, 2 horse straight load. Note the pop bottle dust cap:D chrome center cap held it on. I hope it is not a damaged hub or funky size. The CM had one missing, also, and the size was so strange I couldn't find one to fit, so I had to buy a new hub/drum. The other 3 hubs were the same as the new one.

Finished up the WW, then did some repair on the JD 4320. New headlight/grill assembly and canopy. The old canopy was damaged when I bought it, then my renter finished it up:) I have plans of dressing it up some and installing it on the JD970 4x2. There is still a lot of shade potential.

@NIsaacs, Maybe you need to add a wireless camera with battery on a strong magnet to place on backing rack to help see the tips. Or maybe you could add it to the loader cross member to help with any attachment that you have on. Looks good and should be a big help around the property!

JD 4320, lost the top spindle bearing on the right side knuckle drive. Not happy with JD parts on this. Super expensive and main axle drive gear not available. Not available from Spicer either. After two days of research, I did find a matched set, used.

So, with JD parts and about 4 other vendors, I think I have everything on the way, dang what a struggle. Talk about a complicated nightmare design...

Typical Spicer, three sets of shim kits for three different locations, for bearing/gear adjustment. $400:eek: Only good news, is, it should be enough shims to repair the other side. I hope it is in better shape.

@NIsaacs, Looks similar to a Kubota that I replaced the seals on! Thankfully the bearing weren't shot and the gears were fine. The seals were torn up from grasses being caught in between the knuckle housing and just tearing it up! Hopefully he'll keep an eye on it, stop in every once and a while to check on it! Told him, next time you'll be fighting it or have to have Kubota repair! Was about $500 in parts not including the fluid. The weight of the ring gear was a surprise! Once it was fixed, it steered easier and was better handling! Hope yours comes out well! Hard to keep these old girls running!

Guy I work with lost the same bearing on his 2520... He was able to get parts but was not pleased...

One side down, one to go, it will be easier. It has been a struggle, with parts availability, me ordering wrong or flat forgetting:(

You guys with your feed back and reference to similar tractors, was the key for me to check older and newer models. Sure enough, the new model still uses these same knuckles, as do the two pervious models. The two older models, tell you in the parts book, the single gears are superseded to a gear group. Top two and bottom two each, as a kit. The newer model (still being made) shows the two gear group from the get go. My tractor, 4320, makes no mention of this, at all, grrr.... Thank you guys, for the push.

Finished up the left side. Two bearings, three gears and both seals. I will leave it set overnight so the RTV will cure, then fill it with oil, then let it set a while longer. If no leaks, I will tighten the tie rods and install the tires. I still need to check the axle vent.

Edit: I can't find any vent on the axle. The parts book shows it #SU52604.

This guy says they don't have them....

Looking good! That's always a good thing to allow RTV to set up before use. I'll sometimes let RTV set a few minutes before putting pieces together for a good bite, especially a surface with imperfections! I'll bet it'll steer a whole lot different with everything being cleaned and repaired.

We build small transmissions for power equipment that also do not have vents. Short story, if the air to oil space is sufficient there is no need for the vent as the generated heat will increase internal case pressure but then it'll return to zero when the unit cools down. Spur and helical gears do not generate a lot of heat so large pressures are not normally seen. The key point is to confirm that the internal pressure (by design) does not exceed the seal design threshold thus allowing oil to leak out, or worse water to get in. I have not looked on my JD2032R or on the JD3039R but I can and report back... Id suspect there is not a vent on either compact tractor at the wheel portal assembly tho.

Thats interesting and confirms the guy in the link. He is the administrator for the forum so he probably knows what he is talking about. He says no vent on the sub-compact or compact tractors. When the guy brought the tractor back, broke down, the first thing I did was check the dip stick and there was pressure.

I worry about that, so I pulled the o-ring off the screw in dip stick and left it slightly loose. I do keep in under cover. Maybe it is fine as is and I am worrying over nothing.

Strange the parts book shows one.

How do this units react to change in altitude?
Is there sort of a check valve or something to equal to atmosphere pressure in a way? Or are the seals oversized so it can hold the oil even at 12000ft?

Dad gum final drives won't leave me alone, Bobcat this time. The Clark/Hurth axles are of poor design, been into them all, some more than once so I had parts in stock. I do have to wait on the outer pinion bearing.

@NIsaacs, You need to be your own parts department if you have equipment to keep things going around the house. I try to keep anything that has given me issues in the past on the shelf. Maintenance items are a must with delays on getting some things in todays world! Nothing like having to stop the task at hand to fix something!
