The wife and I were on Body for life for a while it worked good. I would stay away from any diet that is a fad diet. Bottom line - if you want to lose weight you have to burn more calories than you consume. It's a mass balance. You can achieve that by starving (doesn't work long term), consuming less calories by eating better with smaller portions (this is what's required) and excercising (this is required). Also - a tip - your brain has a hard time determining the difference between hunger and thirst. Many times you think that you are hungry, when really you are thirsty. Try drinking a 12 oz glass of water when you feel hungry, then wait 20 minutes. If you're still hungry, then eat.

Also, when you eat, it takes your body 15~20 minutes to tell your brain that you are full. So eat a normal sized portion, then wait 15 minutes. You'll feel much fuller than if you keep eating until you feel full. When you do that you're actually overextending your stomach.

So in a nutshell - drink more water. Eat better foods, and smaller portions (if you like fresh vegetables these are good for you, low calories, and fill you up). You MUST excercise, and I recommend cardio with strength training. The cardio burns the fat, building muscle raises your metabolism (which burns more calories/fat).

Will different eating habits help??

To be blunt and to the point, quit stuffing your face.

I started 10 weeks ago, my own kind of diet that included more fruit and I stop when I am full, regardless of how much is left over on the plate. I used to eat 2-3 double cheeseburgers before work, eating on all my breaks and then wondering why I was gaining weight.

My eating habits now..... I drink a lot of milk , always have, always will, but now its 1% Milk, instead of regular leaded stuff. I will have a banana or peach for brunch, plus I drink orange juice or milk with my meals. When I get home for supper, I will eat a regular meal and stop when I am full.

I started out @ 242 lbs. and over the last 10 weeks have dropped to 216. Thats 26 lbs in 10 weeks and I hope to get to 200 before Christmas. It comes off slow and dont get discouraged, it does take time. Good luck.

Exercise, yeah, if you feel like it. I dont and have not changed my daily routine at all. I am not in any way saying that exercise is bad for you, but do one thing at a time. It is a life style change. I think a lot of people fail at diets because they end up going back to their old routine because most people dont like changing. Once you learn to eat better, and some of the weight comes off, maybe after a while you can add some form of exercise to your liking and schedule. We are about the same size, 5' 11" here, and I am now swimming in my 38 waist jeans.....

Well that hurt my feelings... :-laf

I am going the same route as you, varies a bit from what you are doing.

I am drinking the 1% Simply Smart milk. It's tastes just like whole milk.

My biggest thing is stopping when I feel full. After a few days, I can already see that I am eating less.

You can accomplish alot just from diet. My problem is that my diet stinks, because of my beer intake. I look at beer as a stress relief, so that's mandatory or else I'll have a heart attack and die. So I need to work out to burn off the beer I drank the night before.

If you have the discipline to hold to a diet, then excercise probably isn't required. If your time frame is long and you're a patient person, then you don't need it either. But if you want to see results fast, then you're going to need to burn more calories in addition to diet. Plus the ol lady likes the new biceps... . :D:D:D

i too need to loose weight. i am at risk of getting diabites so that is my motivion to loose weight. i've cut back on soda's and eating less in general. i usually just only have one main meal a day, and that is when i wake up [around 6:00pm-8:00pm] and then some fruits in the night during my shift. i get lots of walking at work. a good amount of water and plain black tea. . i still need to get out more for a jog in the morning, some more time with the weights... but i am working towards it... 180# is my target weight...

I have found that to help you think you are getting fuller, chew your food more. The general rule is 24 times per bite... I think. I have also stared to loose some weight by cutting back on the amout per meal, but haveing 5-6 meals a day. You have to quit eating after 6-7pm. , or at least 3 hours before you go to bed. Noting but water form then on. The idea is to trick your mind that you have eaten a full meal, when you only gave it half your normal portion. No more woppers, just the smaller jr wopper, and will hopefully go to just a cheese burger soon. Unfortunatly, excercise has been the only weight loss that the Lbs. have stayed off. Atkins I gained all the weight back, and added 10 +/- Lbs. just 3 months off the diet. I did alot of carb binging though after I gave up.

Just say no to Atkins - it does odd things to your body.

My ex-GF and I were on it for about a month... I got sick and tired of not being able to eat hardly anything. When I finally gave it up - my first slice of carbohydrate loaded pizza made me hallucinate.

Balanced meals made with wholesome ingredients served in moderate portions is what you need. Combined with exercise - you can't loose... wait - you CAN loose. :) Finding an exercise that isn't perpetually boring might be the most difficult aspect of dieting.

Another advantage of the Body for Life deal is that you get to eat whatever you want one day out of the week... with this diet, it's good to be bad.
