I have a prob with my '06 QC, and this is the 1st problem I've ever had with it. The a/c isn't really blowing hard from the vents. It also doesn't switch from fresh air to recirc, it sounds like it's stuck in between fresh and recirc as it's making alot of noise now and not alot from the vents. Anyone know what's up before I venture to the dealer? All the other controls work.

Thats what I would like to know. Why can we not just put the recirculate doors in position and fasten them there permanent. I dont care if I get any outside air in anyway. Mine sounds the same and I also have the passenger side is warmer than the drivers side issue. How do we cure that?

Been back to the dealer twice, had it checked both times, said my Mega Cab did not have any problem with the door, but they "recalibrated" the mode door and says it is OK. But it still has the same problem as you describe. Sounds like the blower is really doing something, but what???

Went to another dealer, and they found a notice about the HVAC Housing part numbers 05189136A$, 05086718A$, 68021981A$, and 68004226A$ stating that if the issue is poor air flow from the dash vents and the vehicle was built before 5/29/06, verify the recirculation door is not broken.

If the recirculation door is OK, cut out and remove the nylon screen that is located on the top of the HVAC housing. The screen is accessible my moving the instrument panel to the rear.

I am not sure if this is also applicable to the QC trucks, but why in the world would they put a nylon screen on the HVAC housing???, and now why do they want it removed???

I posted a note about this a while back even before they put it in a GPOP note. The screen is there to direct more air to the rear passengers. It was a good idea in theory, but it is a very fine screen and gets plugged with lint, dog hair, etc. and blocks the flow to the front and directs more to the rear. The fix is fairly easy, roll the dash back and cut the screen out. And no, quad cab does not have it, only Mega cab. Trucks built in the last few months are also not supposed to have it. There is no TSB, so your best bet is to have the dealer look up the recirc door PN and then print off the GPOP note.

If it's the recirc door, there is a warranty fix for it. It's a whole new housing and door. It does give you control over fresh/recirc, but it doesn't help make the A/C work any better. There's a whole other thread on this. Seems the whole system is subpar, especially for the Megas. Lot's of noise, not much cold and blow.

Posted this yesterday in the wrong forum!!

Air conditioner fix. Purchased my 2006 QC 4X4 in December of 2006. The air conditioner was 50% of what my old 98. 5 put out. It would take at least two miles of driving to get any real cold air. I just thought it was a re-engineered 'new' design with less performance and put up with it. About 3 months ago there was a pulsating vibration in the cab when the fan was on the highest two speeds (like the air compression vibration when running at high speed with the windows partially down). Mentioned this when I took it in for scheduled maintenance and was told "there was debris in the unit".

A few hours later received a call from the dealer saying there was a new 'door housing' available (don't think they mentioned TSB) and they needed a few more hours to do the installation... I said go for it.

After I settled my portion of the bill (new housing was a 'no charge') they called to have the truck brought around front (about 150 yards). When I got in you could have hung meat in the cab... it was freezing! The repaired unit has worked flawlessly this summer and is far better than the 98. 5. The darn thing was broken when I purchased the truck and dumb dumb (could not figure how to put the blame on the wife or dog) didn't do anything about it!!!!

my POS '03 is doing the same thing along with rotting above the rear wheel wells, exhaust system rotting right off truck and going back to the dealer for the 6th time because the overdrive has stopped working AGAIN. i've had it with this shi!!y dealer and over-priced piece of garbage truck.

I posted this in the other forum: https://www.turbodieselregister.com...ssion-discussions/162177-mega-cab-weak-c.html and thought maybe it would be appropriate here also...

Picked up my truck last night from the dealer, Dominion Dodge, in Salem, VA. They performed the proceedure that folks have been mentioning here about replacing the recirculation door and removing the screen that is supposed to direct more air to the rear vents. I must say, if you have the low air flow to the front vents, go ahead and complain to the dealer so that they will perform this procedure. My receipt contained the numbers CSR# 39 and a number of 24652300 which may have been a part number. It really makes such a difference that when I was coming home last night from the dealer I was looking to slow the fan down (I thought I had it on the third setting), (86 degrees with 75% humidity) because I was actually getting cold, but it was already on the lowest speed!!! What a marked improvement!!!!

Now, when you turn the fan on the highest setting, you can tell the vents are putting out the most amount of air they can for their size. The velocity of the air is fantastic!!! I have 38 degree air coming out of the center vents with the fan on high and recirculate, so it should cool it down quite a bit better now!!!!

This dealer has done a lot of these repairs, and their diesel guy is certainly well trained and experienced because there are no rattles, and the dash looks like it did before the work was started. You can't tell anything has been done! My hat's off to him. Great job!

If anyone has any questions about this, feel free to PM me. I can only say that I highly recommend this repair from my experience with this problem. Everyone in this particular thread that recommended it apparently has experienced the same thing. This is a load off my mind because it will help keep the wife comfortable, and ultimately, if she's cool and happy, I will be happy. Because, everyone knows... "if momma ain't happy, then nobody's happy... "

Thanks for listenin' to my 2 cents worth...

i have heard of may recirc doors coming apart or stripping out, the dash has to be removed and the door has to be replaced with an updated recirc door housing assembly

Can you give me an address of Salem. VA dealership. I'd liked to take my truck over there. Also, give me the name of the service writer that you talked to. Thanks.

I have an 06 2500 and had the same problem with mine. I took the blower motor off. Just 3 screws. and reached up in the hole and fished out the broken recirculation door and wow my AC blows hard again. Who cares if you can switch if it saves you the 500 the dealer wanted to charge to fix it.

Can anyone show a picture of this nylon screen mentioned earlier in the thread? I'm pretty sure my recirc door was repaired prior to me purchasing the truck in '08. But the (removal of the) screen is something that sounds promising.....

Got-R-Done...Thanks!

My cousin’s truck suffered from the loud blower fan and low air flow coming from the dash vents. Took forever to get cool inside on the ’06 Mega Cab! The air that did come out was cold, but there was just not enough air flow to get it cool.

I did as you folks suggested, removed the blower motor after removing the glove box, and reached up in there to feel around. Lo and behold, the recirc door was laying in there blocking the fan. It took just a second to move it around so that it would go vertical, and out it came through the blower opening. After reinstalling the fan, and trying the A/C, it will blow you back into the seat compared to the flow when the door was blocking the blower!

His wife is finally happy, as he said his “hothouse flower” is finally cool! I explained to him that he might get some cold air flowing into the cab this winter before the heater gets warm, so be sure to wear warm socks & boots when first starting his truck…or, plug it in to help get some heat out just a bit sooner!

Thanks so much folks for a great posting, and hope this can help others get a temporary fix until they decide to tackle the dash (if ever)!

:)

I had the same low airflow on my 06. Turned out my evaporator was pretty much clogged shut with dirt/mud. It's not always the recirc door.

is the recirc door and the bled door the same thing? i had my blend door done on my 06 allready. seems to work fine. but when a/c is on recirculate and you put fan on high it is louder blower motor sound than when it's on fresh air. . is this normal?
