Well guys, it seems that we are going to bat 1000 on these things. Appears as though we've had yet another one eat a bullet. Same symptoms... .

I KNOW my day is coming!!.:eek::eek:

I am curious are the issues only showing up on the 450/550 trucks? The reason why I ask is I have not seen any one complaining about the pickup trucks like the 250/350 fords.

Every time I am next to a fellow camper with a new ford he states how great they are and is crowing about the mileage. MY DW wife then ask why is the mileage so low on the Cummins. I am seeing about 12. 5 pulling my fiver. I simply tell her that I do not lie and most people do not know their real mileage figures.

12. 5 mpg towing a 5er?? You should be VERY happy about that !

I get 10 to 10. 5 mpg towing my 5er...

It appears to be isolated to the 300 hp. tuned C&C trucks. I haven't heard of any valve failures on the pickup engines, seen a few holes in blocks on the P/U version, but its been VERY few... . IMHO, that can be attributed to having a completely new product on the market, sometimes you gotta break an egg.

They are the same engine, but with different software for the lower HP. #'s, and a different turbocharger that does not have engine braking!!. .

I have heard that the P/U is getting some decent mileage, mid-teens when unloaded, but I have to question, At What Costs?? DEF isn't free, the $100 for the fuel filters definitely adds to the maintenance costs... (BTW, thats NOT installed) And heaven help any of you guys that have to buy replacement exhaust system components after the warranty expires!!!. .

I agree, I hear claims all the time about guys getting 25+ MPG... . I will believe it when I can see some REAL data... not a lie-o-meter on the overhead display!!. .

It makes you wonder if the C&C tune is the issue, or if it is more a matter of the pickups generally not being subjected to the same duty cycle. It is a darned shame either way!

cheapest price i have heard on def was about 3. 25 a gallon. best prices i have found for oem fuel filters was about 70. 00 shipped. Oil and air filter together are a bit cheaper then my 05' cummins was . . With only a 1,000 miles on the clock, i managed to dump about a quart of def in the tank before it was full again. . Best mileage i have heard was 24mpg on a 3/4, 2wd with those air plane gears. The guy freely admited that was strictly highway, and driveing with an egg under the pedal. . He claimed 20mpg was normal. . Best i have averaged was 16mpg, city/highway/ideling, combined with some light trailer towing[ 6,000lbs]. .

Makes you wonder why dealers charge for it like its liquid gold. How on earth did u find filters cheaper than the Fleetguard filters for the old goat??? I buy then locally and they have got to be the cheapest filter I ever purchased... You must know somebody!!!!hahahaha... .

I've talked with a couple guys that have them, (3/4 4x4's unknown gearing) that said fuel mileage was great when new, but after about 20k, fuel consumption actually went up, mileage dropped a couple MPG... . which really doesnt surprise me since as the exhaust system starts getting loaded up, you start experiencing more frequent fuel dosing events...

Has anybody with a "regen engine" (no matter the make) had to purchase any exhaust system components yet? I would be curious to know what the retail prices for that stuff is!

I would be willing to bet that is exactly the reason the pickup owners love their trucks. The C&Cs are loaded heavy with service beds, tools, booms, generators, etc.

It was and still is that way with the Sick. Ohh Furds. Owners who use them as commuter cars or only for occasional light towings still believe their trucks are great. Put one in service towing heavy trailers every day and catastrophic failures are a certainty.

I have a good friend who had several CTDs and towed heavy, a lot of it in slow, creeping off-road construction work. He had several trans failures on the newest Dodge with 48RE. I had advised him to go to a DTT build and put in an auxilliary cooler with an electric fan. Instead, he found a "deal" on a F-350 with 6. 4 Navijunk. He had continuous code issues and limp-mode operation, so he did a DPF delete. For a short(very)time he was bragging on what a hot rod it was. Then the 6. 4 grenaded catastrophically. Repair bill?... $14,000! I don't blame people for believing the Ford hype, and it's a darned shame to see someone get taken to the cleaners when times are so tough. Meanwhile, the old Cummins is still rattling along.

Found the motorcraft filters online. . Fuel is a bit more then the dodge x2, the oil is the same, and the air is a bit cheaper. . As for the emission crap, if it screws up on my dime, it WILL get deleted. . The government wants cleaner air and that fine by me, but by the time manufactures get things working right, they have to change it again. . I wont sacrifice reliability and safety for those morons. .

Ya know... . where I work, we are currently working with new Tier 4 off-highway stationary diesel engines. We've been heavy into emissions for the lean burn NG engines for years..... with that said, some of the components of the aftertreatment system are extremely expensive.

I have heard a nasty rumor that a set of injectors installed in the new 6. 7L Ford is right around 10K!!!!. .:eek:

I agree, if you never plan on taking it to Kalifornia, delete it. After what i've been seeing, if something bad happened to my current truck, I believe I would go back to a gasser... .

Yep, that's what my brother did... dumped a '08 F250/6. 4L PSD with 57K miles for a '11 Ram with a hemi and is very pleased with it. The hemi doesn't constantly go into regeneration and limit the power, and so far, the Ram doesn't leak fluids from front to back. From a guy who has always owned Ford pickups, and until he got sick of this Ford, "would rather push a Ford than drive a Dodge". :-laf

As bad as i hate to admit it, a gasser would possibly be next on my list also. All the newer diesels are getting more complicated and expensive, the gassers seem to be getting even better. Gassers are certainly less expensive to fuel, maintain, and replace if need be. If you dont need the absolute power, a gasser is a solid decision. As for injectors being 10k to replace, i wouldnt be shocked at it. I heard around 7k is the norm for a commonrail 5. 9. They dont call the dealerships, stealerships for nothing...

Thats just crazy!!!...

I really don't plan on ever darkening the doorstep of a dealership service department with my personal truck again!!. . I got such a bad vibe last time, coulda beat them to death with a club!!!...

Sometimes it's the dealership, sometimes it's the people who work at them. I do my best to learn as much about any place i may possibly spend my money at, as well as a general idea of the cost of parts and such for specific repairs. . I have done enough mechanic work in my time to know sometimes a tech earns every dime he makes. .

well... its still in the shop... . interesting thing though, I recently had to make an emergency stop at an out of town Ford dealership... . (actually a very small dealership with about 30 vehicle inventory) low and behold, sitting there in their service department with the cab off was a 2011 Ford C&C truck, both heads removed, and a valve failure in #4 cylinder!!!... I just laughed... .

Now Bill I got a question??? Your statement about constant regens!!! If you read the latest TDR magazine there is an article about how much regens don't really hurt mileage!!

I believe the author of the article stated that regens only cost lest than 1. 5 gals per 1000 miles. I thought it was a good article but that statement is bull:mad:
