My wife was the same way until we put here in a new Jeep Grand Cherokee limited Overland. I come from a Chrysler Family though so the discount is well worth it.

These are TRUCKS, not luxury cars - you HAVE to provide clearances in body panels and various mounts to allow for twisting and movement in a TRUCK that won't be acceptable in a vehicle designed purely for freeway travel - try putting a couple of tons in the trunk of yout Lexus and then drive it out in an oil field or construction site on a daily basis - THEN get back to us about how tight and rattle-free it is!

Money spent on a TRUCK is for its ability to do serious WORK, not for a luxury ride or quietness out in the rough stuff - ya gotta keep yer PERSPECTIVE in this stuff!;) :p

AND, the bit about noise complaints of the 3rd generation stuff being due to the "new quieter engine" that we simply "didn't notice" in the older trucks is pretty much whitewash from guys making rationalization for the money they spent on the new stuff - my '02 runs quietly enough down the road that the radio is quite easy to hear thank you, and about all the engine related noise I hear is a small bit of exhaust note from that dandy Cummins - certainly NOTHING there to "mask out" various rattles, whines or snorts - other than the Ford and GM owners around me on the road...

Very eloquent Gary.

Whitewash Casey trying to rationalize why I bought a new truck.

i was born and raised on the mexican border and for fifty years nothing ever changed my motto of "nothing good is in or ever came from mexico". you have to live there to believe it but once you have... ... ... !! HOWEVER, i am hoping my 2003 2500 4x4 will let me put ONE thing on the positive side of the list. i too am getting wind noise from the drivers side. but i got that in my Z71 too. oh well.

I still agree with Casey.

There's really no disagreement to begin with...

Rather, perhaps a minor adjustment or reality check regarding what is reasonable expectation from a *work truck*...

NOR, should a 3rd generation owner be any more sensitive to comments regarding purchase rationalizations of THEIR chosen truck, than a 2nd generation owner over constant references as to how "noisy" THEIRS is!

You guys like yours, we like ours - all for reasons of our own - why not leave it at that?;) :D :D

Gary,

If I offended, I apologize. I love the 2nd gen truck sound. I just like Casey's explanation of why many complaints are noise-related. It helps me sleep better at night. ;)

HEY - no problems here - we're all among friends - no matter WHAT generation - 1st, 2nd OR 3rd, you can count your blessings if ya have that

big C plastered on there somewhere!;) :D :D

Chris, hope you get your problems worked out. About the wind noise, I used to have a terrible noise on my Chevy. It ended up being the antenna. If you get it back and it still exist, try and take it off for a trip. Good luck, Joe

I had the wind noise at the drivers door and the steering column vibration at 2100 rpm. Took it in and they said the door seal was weak. Replaced under warranty. Performed the TSB for the PS hose with the big weight. No more wind noise no more vibration in steering and all is good. This thing is way quieter going down the road than our 2000 Intrepid!!! :D :p
