Also, I don't really want a 5 in tip hanging out, but would make do. Biggest concern is noise, would accept a *slight* increase, as I figure it can't be heard above the MIGHTY CUMMINS anyway. I don't tow, 80% driving in town. Plan on addding EZ as soon as I get around to it this month, along with Isspro's. Thanks for any and all help!

The simple answer is to leave it alone. There really is nothing wrong with the stock system for a stock or lightly modified engine. Get some DD2's and an EZ and you might have to get rid of the stock muffler, but that is all. There is no reason to change it out other than wanting a better sound or high EGT on a heavily bombed engine. MHO, hope it helps.

Stock exhaust is all ya need.

You could go with a Rhino or Walker straight though mufler in place of the factory one and leave the rest alone.

Dixie, I did not "need" to change out my muffler. I have just been afraid that it would be louder and waited 50,000 miles to make the switch. I installed a 3 1/2" NAPA (I can't put my fingers on the part numbers right now). It was a straight through design. I left the resonator on the system and with this 30'' long muffler I was very plesantly suprised with the LACK of increased exhaust noise.

I am going to take a guess at the part number (29471) It also required 2 reducers (4"-3 1/2" and 3 1/2" -3") About $85. 00 for the whole mess. (I did the install)

Hope that helps you in your decision making process.

New exhaust

If you want to spend the money on a new exhaust do it. It`s your money. Jardine has their system on sale for $425. 00 shipped to your front door. It is said to be one of the quietest systems around with a deep rumble to and not too loud. I spoke with Jerry about my concerns for loud noise and he stated the above, and so has many other TDR members. My truck is stock, but next month it will have a Jardine 4" exhaust system.

What about just a 4" straight thru muffler and tail pipe, leaving the stock head pipe and resonator? Looks to me like this might work better and still keep the noise down.

Dixie:

I have the DD 4" system with the Walker #21471

muffler. I like the system very much. It is not as

quiet as my old stock system but is not what I

would call "loud" either. Has a nice throaty sound

at around 2250, however, you can still carry on a

conversation inside the cab and you can hear the

radio too!

Hope this has helped you some!

Good luck!

If you're adding any power then anything you can do to help keep it cool is a good idea. Is the EZ the only thing you're adding?

baby.driver

1. For the sound

2. The feeling of having a new system

3. The looks from other people

4. To lower EGT

5. See no. 1

Dixie Dawg, you can get the Jardine without the 5" tip, and add a second short muffler. The second muffler really cuts down on in cab noise.

PM me directly for more info, if interested.

I have a lowly 1st gen, but I went to straight through 3 inch. It is only marginally louder in the cab, and I'm sure that with a straight through muffler, it would not be at all. It made a serious difference in turbo spool up, as well as pretty much halting ALL smoke.

I'm sure that 3 inch, as long as it's well done, will be sufficient up to 275 or so flywheel HP. Didn't cost much, either.

My straight pipe is pretty quiet;) . At an idle it just whistles and rumbles a little bit:)

1,800 rpm with about 30 pounds of boost, it's just plain obnoxious:D

Dixie,

I have the JRE 4” exhaust, it has a nice mellow and throaty sound to it, and you can here the turbo through the tailpipe. We put my tailpipe at a 60 degree angle and it is definitely quieter in the cab.

I love this exhaust system and have received many compliments about it.

I just installed a 4" Jardine exhaust with a resonator (Magnoflow). I read alot of posts about some people getting drone and others who do not. I figure I would install it just once and be done with it. The exhaust is pretty quiet. It sounds almost stock at idle and has a lower tone than stock. I noticed that I can get faster and higher turbo boost with the 4" exhaust.

I did not receive the 5" tip which was supposed to be part of the 425. 00 delivered to your door deal. This offer expired at the beginning of the year. I'll have to give Jerry a call to see what he says.
