Left Brighton at 8:30 am friday. Arrived 530 miles later at Rocky Mountain Raceway in Salt Lake City around 4:00.
Three classes Stock, Modified and Unlimited. I was told "Sorry, larger than stock turbo puts you in modified... ... ..... Oh wait, I see you have water meth... you will be in unlimited class". Ok, no big deal as long as I get a dial in.
Three practice runs; 1. Truck dies four times going down the track; runs 17. 43 @ 81. Take it to the pits. Pump wires for fuel shutoff became loose. Pinch connectors and try again.
2. Missed third gear which will cause problems later. 14. 53 @ 100
3. Truck hops coming out of hole. 13. 59 @ 101. 8
I can tell the truck has more. Set dial in to 13. 23.
1st round; Guy next to me red lights. This feels like my best pass. I run 82. 42 mph in the 1/8. My inexperience takes over and says "slow down you don't want to break out". I back out at the 1000 ft mark and run 13. 68 @ 89. I think about it as I'm getting my timeslip and remember I could've, should've stayed in it and probably would have broke out and obviously still win.
2nd round; don't know what happens to the guy next to me. I miss 3rd again but slam it in finally and run 15. 22 @ 99 for the win. Transmission jams up going to get timeslip. Struggle with it for 20 seconds then it seems fine.
3rd round; I get a bye and decide to leave it in 2wd. Spin tires like a blooming idiot and run 17. 74 @ 96.
4th round; I race an orange color Dodge. I was going to let him stage first so he cold spool his turbo (auto). He lights both yellows up immediately. I don't want to time out so I wait about 2 seconds then pull up. Don't know if he wasn't spooled yet or what but he should have left before me with his 14. 00 dial in. I see I have him beat and back out again for a 13. 77 @ 90 win. Transmission feels different.
As I'm driving to get back in line it finally occurs to me I might be getting close to the end. As I pull up to the line the track official says "Final round, pull up". I see other lane has a 12. 20 dial. I leave 1st and miss third... ... ... again. Expecting him to pass me up real soon I jam it in gear again and go. Check my mirrors and see a lot of tire smoke. I do believe he forgot to put it in 4x4.
I back out for a 16. 25 @ 91 win. Transmission is stuck in 5th. Takes me about a minute to get over to get my time slip lugging along. Get to timeslip shack and struggle with it for a while and finally get it back to 2nd. Pull around to starting line for trophy and pictures and a $750 certificate for any Edge product. Man representing Edge apoligizes for not having any products I could use on my truck. :-laf :-laf :-laf
Looking back I had broke the shifter on last Wed. and had it welded up Thurs. The throw was shorter since the rubber is burnt out of it now and I do believe I was throwing it too far each time and bent a fork on my first pass which messed it up for the rest of the evening.
Saturday:
Dynoed right after MADDOG who did 940 hp earning top honors and Clint Cannon who took 2nd with 720 hp. I did 455/1005. I guessed 450hp. These are all uncorrected. Heard a lot of guys saying Edges Dynoes were reading 75-150 low. LMAO :-laf. No, not low; ACCURATE! Had dinner with member KBennets family and left Ogden around 7:15 pm. Get into a race??? with three boys in a Dodge V8 Magnum pickup outside of Ogden. We pull off a ramp and BS for 20 minutes. One of them says "We saw those numbers on your window and knew you must have been @ RMR this weekend. We all asked each other if it could be possible that old Dodge could do that so we stepped on it. As fast as you left us..... we believe. " I arrive in Brighton at 3:30 am.
