Westin Oval Tube Steps?

Does anybody have these on their 03's yet? I'm hoping to get a set but I don't see the 03 Ram listed on Westin's site...

I called Westen about a week ago. They said the Nerf bars for 03 2500 and 3500's would be out in about a month.

I wanted Westins but didn't want to wait so went with Luverne (check the spelling). Where I got them did the install for free - took about 20 minutes.

Check out the stainless steel nerf bars by Backcountry. Their working good for me. Easy to install to.

I put the westin bars on my 2003 crew cab back in Oct. I was told that the 2002 1500's were the same as the 2003 2500's. The cab mounts went on perfect but there was a slight problem with the stiffening bracket that was suppose to mount on the front cab mount. I drilled a 3/8 tapped bolt hole (before I was ever told not too) in the bottom of the frame and mounted the bracket on the rear cab mount with no noticable difference in strenght. I like the bars they look great clean easily but would wait for the correct "no drill" mounting system.

I called in early December about the oval tube steps and they said about a month back then. Must be "the corporate" answer.

Get the Putco Boss Bars

I've had mine on backorder since October and every time I call them it's always going to be "another two weeks. " I swear, if they weren't the only people selling 4 inch pipe stainless side steps, I would cancel my order. I am seriously considering the Westin full length bars in place of the Putco Boss Bars.

I also installed Westins but mine did not fit exactly perfect. They stuck out in front so I had to elongate the rear brackets mounting hole to get them to line up straight. I installed the stiffening bracket against the flange side of the brackets and then tapped a 1/2 threaded hole into the side of my frame. Because there is no stiffening bracket for the back, the nerf bar tended to move if someone stepped on it back there. I fabricated another stiffening bracket to mount at the back and now it's very solid and looks great. Westins can be installed but it does take a great deal of extra work. I would recomend you do not drill into the bottom of the frame, and it's not really neccesary anyway.

By the way, I got the westins because they were the only company I could find that made a chrome plated stainless bar. (I'm not fond of the yellowish tint stainless gets with time)

It didn't come from the factory that way. Chances are, they got added at the dealership and the charge was lumped into whatever you paid for the truck!

They probably gave you the ones for the '02. They fit almost but not quite from what I've been reading. If they drilled into the sheet metal, they're not the right ones. The '03 Westins aren't out yet ... maybe the middle of this month.

I had Westins put on today and they drilled into the frame for the front bracket. I told them that they were not suppose to do this but they said that Dodge dealers send them to them all the time. The drivers side front bracket isn't flush with the frame and you can see the threads of the screw so I'll take it back to them and have them fix it. Other than that they look fine.

Right, the Dodge dealer in Colo Spgs sells Westins too. But if you check the Westin web site you'll find they aren't out yet for the '03s. Westin advertises that their bars install without drilling (i. e. , they bolt on). I have an idea your dealer took bars for last year''s Dodge and adapted 'em to fit the '03.



Not sticking my nose in your business, but I think the dealer should have told you about that and given you the option of deciding which one you wanted.

i called westin yesterday and was told to order mounting kit #221015 for my 03 quad. for the steps i was told #220025 (black) or #220020 (chrome) will work.

Your are correct. This was a Westin Dealer that my dealer uses. I contacted them and they will check it out for me and will order the mounting kit and make things right.

H-m-m-m. I'll give 'em a shout too and see if they're out. My truck is a 3500 Quad long bed. Might be different from a 2500. I want the wheel-well-to-wheel-well variety.

Tietjen's Lonestar Truck Equipment

You fellows want a good step to put on your truck check these out Lonestar Running boards. Just got a set for my 03 will put them on this afternoon. First set I got did not fit so they were told to modify the front mount. There made out in Del Rio. Well that still did not work right. I took them back and he said he would give me my $ back or I could get another set. Where they are made at they got a 03 just like mine and made a set to fit. Mine were the fitst ones Tietjen's had sold for an 03 so I was the guinea pig but they got everything corrected. When he told me he had got a set from them that would work he mounted them on there for me to make sure they were correct then I had him take them off. I took them to a place and had them spray them with that bedliner spray. These bolt to your cab mounts(3) and the end mounts on the bolt that goes thru the rear spring. No welding. I had only found to other places that make these kind and they were welded to the frame which I did not want. These will protect more of the side than a normal running board and they are solid. Hey, glad you knew it ahead of time! I just don't trust car dealers and was trying to help out. I don't want ANYBODY drilling holes in my truck unless it's absolutely necessary. I plan on it being around a l o n g time and frame and body rust has a way of shortening the life of any vehicle.
