This thing of beauty tops off Matt400's oilburner very nicely. Buh-bye cheesy plastic cover!

Matt... Just dont loose your engine serial number. I've been reading a post by scotty about the trouble he is having getting some parts because he dosent have the serial number off the plastic dress up cover. Apparently it is not stamped anywhere else on the engine, or included in the vin.

By the way... It looks awesome.

What exactly did you do to make the breather work?
I just relocated the breather exit point for clearance issues by drilling and tapping the cover for a 1/2"npt fitting for use with 3/4" hose.

As nice as that thing looks, you could charge an arm AND a leg for one...

In FACT I already hacked mine off and they are in the mail :-laf

Man, it just does not stop with the modding, does it!?!?

Does it come with a clock?

I couldn't guess about a clock, but I bet improves the mileage by 2-3 mpg and good for 23 hp/48 ft-lb tq. ;)

Beautiful cover!

I vaguely remember the original post on that - what engine is it from (I know, I know, a Cummins engine, but what model?)?

Its for medium duty and marine ISBe's. It has an internal breather so the external one on the OEM cover is not used. Mods to make it fit were discussed in this thread:

It bolts right on, just had to change the exit point for the internal breather.

It comes un painted so you just buy one, paint it and change the vent exit.

Powder coat, polished or chrome would look trick and add some hp I am sure.

While checking my oil the other day when refueling a fella asked why it looked so different, I said its a special edition 7. 0 liter :-laf not on the order sheet so you gotta know someone :-laf

Thats hiliarious. Except some hillbilly is gonna say "cummings is a 7. 0 litre" and they'll also say, "doesn't Ford own cummings?" Then they'll say they have a "650 hp duracrap with three stacked chips and stock everything else" Thats my favorite.

Did you ever find out what that extra spring was for?
Nope, kinda weird with the way it was in there. All it did was push up on the V/C when I unbolted it.

It is not listed or shown on Cummins Quick Serve either. It is possible to drill the area on the medium duty cover to fit it in there but I was getting impatient so left it out.

I did find through Cummins Quick Serve that the plastic covers data plate can be ordered. Its called a "Fuel Rating". I may just cut mine off the old cover and mount it to the condenser guard.

I'd take a picture of it, print it out, then laminate it and put it in the driver's side visor pocket. Then you've got an electronic record of it and you don't have to hack up your cheap plastic cover thing.
