Changing only oil filter. But oil test will be delayed

ditched the twins, went super phat!

On my 3rd oil change, (broken in now) I am using Amsoil and will continue to do so. From the tests I've seen it can't be beat. I also like the extended change interval.

I use bacon grease mixed with a little canola oil. I haven't had an analysis done yet, but it seems to work fine.

For a filter I use an old shop rag wadded up inside a ziplock bag, and tie-wrapped onto the oil filter mount. I'm thinking about going to a bigger ziplock bag and two shop rags though for more effective filtration.

Just kidding... :D

Sorry, couldn't resist!

How come no one is running straight 30 weight in any of the mentioned popular brands in the summer? A straight weight oil has a higher percentage of lubricant than a multi-viscosity oil. Most diesels, including Caterpillar, recommend a straight weight oil for summer use.

Rotella and a Penske (AKA: Wix, Napa gold etc. etc) filter.

Used to run the Frams till I heard all the bad stuff about them.

I've been seeing the Pennzoil 15w-40 for under $5. oo a gallon, and used this for the last 3-4 changes.

I have used Rotella 15W40 and Fleetguard LF 3894 since the truck was new. With 30K on the truck now, I am switching to Amsoil synthetic front to back and staying with the Fleetguard fuel & oil filters from Genos.

Fram oil filters!!!!

I was at the dealer last week and talked to a tech who was installing a new short block in a CTD. The Fram oil filter cardboard came apart and some of the debris clogged an oil passage. One of the cylinders was so scored I couldn't believe it. Fram at least stepped up to pay the bill. The truck has like 40k on it.

Of course, I use Amsoil 15W-40, with Amsoil filter along with the By-pass oil filtration system.

Purolator

fyi...

just noted at Pep Boys who carry Purolator fitlers. These have always rated fairly well. I inspected the one for the cummins, and low and behold, it had stamped on it stratapore.

I have always ran Hastings Filters which I have only saw one person post that they are running a Hastings.

Should I worry about either of these?

15-50 Mystic and Fleetguard filters. I run that oil in all the engines I have from welder to 4020 John Deere.
