max allowable towing from class xx hitch

Have ya seen one of these toyhaulers before?

Hello out there I have a 2003 2500 HD long bed 4X4. I went to look at some slide in campers today at a show and I was told that my truck could only hold an 8 foot slide in. The sales man said that the dodge can't handle anything bigger. I find this hard to believe. I know that I can tow up to 12,500 . I've been told by others that I can go with a 10 foot camper and not have any trouble. The slide in camper I was looking at was the Artic Fox. Can anyone out there tell me what my truck can handle. Thanks BigMike.

MOConner, don't mean to intrude on your post but I noticed your on longisland. Just wondering how you go about getting a beach permitt for Suffolk county? Do you need to be a resident? I'm looking forward to doing some fishing/camping this summer on the beach but have no idea on how to go about getting the proper permits.

Thanks

Mike

Mike if you live in suff just go to any of the parks or smithpoint beach or sayville golf course to get the permits and you need a green key card the card is 20 bucks and is good for 3 years and with the card. The outter beach permit is 75 bucks unless you are over 65 then it is cheeper. If you do not live in suff call the suff county parks at the sayville golf course m-f and they will tell you what you need to know.

MOConnor,

Per the 2003 towing guide your payload is approx. 2400lbs. Hope this helps

And here is the rub... Your 2005 will have no "power" problems with the camper, but you'll be overweight for you truck, and probably your rear tires. By the time you add people, diesel, camping stuff, and a 10' camper, you will have eaten up that 2400lbs and more...

The best thing for a slide in camper is a 3500 dually. (12,200# GVW) Mostly for the onboard weight and with the extra tires, adds much more stability...

i am not sure on the available weight but might be like 4000-5000# for camper weight.

Since you don't have even the single whee one ton, I would recomend either a TT less than 28' or medium 5th wheel of 29-32'. the upper 32' no more than 1 slide.

Too much weight for a 2500 to be safe. Used to have a 94 Dodge 2500 with an 8' and all was good, then the little gal decided she needed air, microwave and TV. Bought a 9 1/2' Fleetwood. It was white knuckle all the way home and cursed the salesman the whole way for saying it would handle the load just fine. Air bags, new BFG E rated tires made everything seem fine but within 8000 miles three of the four tires had tread separation. Ordered new Dually.
