What do you consider lugging a ho 6 speed ?

I agree that is waYYY too low of a speed for 6th. He needs to select manually so he can see the gear.
It's usually always in manual, so I can see what gear im in. Just came down the mountain same curve going from 46mph and letting the EB slow me down as always. I'm in 5th gear not 6th. Rpms were somewhere between 650- 900 rpms. Oh well I guess it's normal.

Did you have Tow Haul activated?

I go from 45 mph to 25 during some tight curves on our rd. While I'm in the turn my truck seems to be lugging. I always have to step on the accelerator pedal to get it to shift down. It makes me feel better. The truck will just motor up the hill without doing that , but it just feels like it should have shifted down to 3rd or 4th gear. My 2015 3500 drw with the aisin did the same thing. I guess it's normal, but I don't have to like it. Lol.

I have found on the 20' that if you are decelerating and NOT in Tow/Haul mode, you have to coast quite a bit to get the EB to engage. Usually it is followed up by a down shift if RPM is too low (ie 4th-->3rd or 3rd--> 2cnd) but not always, I surmise that this is to help with fuel economy when scenarios like down slope driving or coasting (not Tow/Haul) are encountered and the EB application would be counter productive to saving fuel. There are two simple solutions to this that really don't require using the ERS. 1) drive in Tow/Haul mode as @Cummins12V98 suggests but it does have more aggressive programming and firm EB operations / shifting schedule as you already know. 2) Just simply try applying the brake enough to activate the lights, (not the service brakes). This tells the ECM you intend to slow / stop and not coast IMHO and it will engage the EB and / or downshift sooner but not as firm and aggressive as option 1.

JM2C. take it if you choose.

Thanks for the info. I'll try it. I've tried the TH in this particular curve on the road and yes it does downshift, and sometimes down to 1st gear which means I almost come to a stop with vehicles behind me. Not ideal. I'll try giving it light braking as you suggested.

I suggest using TH if you don't like the "LUGGING" feeling.

I agree with that.,.. I use it frequently and the shift schedule / EB performance is more predictable. I tried normal mode on my way home and it is in 5th coasting from 50 and then gets into 4th below about 25... then 3rd. EB performance is not stellar as engine speed is around 1000 RPM.. Seems like the down shift point is about 900 and the upshift (very light throttle application) is about 1100 RPM... It'll go into 6th above about 40~45 and is perfectly happy there.

Had not drove my new truck in a few days. Snow and cold stay home mode. Short days went out today and yes tow haul mode is the answer. I like how it shifts that way much better. But the truck will take care of it self. It’s a interesting power train set up. Very cool and I’m happy to drive it. My old truck was like a dinosaur by comparison .

This is an interesting discussion and confirms some considerations I have had with the 2017 5500 with Aisin I own as a work truck. I never liked how that beast shifted whether in TH or not. I especially don't like how it shifts if you shift it manually. So, I have gone over to the "dark side" and ordered a 2022 Chevy/Duramax, because of no more manuals in the Ram brand, and I really like how that 10 speed Allison shifts.

Well at least I heard the updated the interiors,... the 20's when I looked at them were about the same as a city bus... Sorry you decided to change oars, but I almost bought a GMC Denali (long time GM guy but now long time RAM guy???o_O).. Interior was the deal breaker,.. DW and I thought long and hard and said we spend all the time "inside" so who cares about the outside... and I still like the FEEL of a firm shift and the response of the EB which on my 30min test drive  was completely absent on the 10spd... so here I am 2020 RAM HO AISIN.... no regrets (wish I had no sunroof!!!!!!! and air ride, and 50gal tank) but I digress......... my 2028 RAM will :D:D... Hope you enjoy that 2022 Chevy as much as I love my 20',... I dont miss rowing the NV5600 one bit... NOT ONE BIT :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Well sometimes... seriously, they are all good trucks, we just all have our pet peves and personal preferences.. otherwise there would not be choices right?

It seems I've finally learned the differences between the way my 2015 drw ctd/Aisin/4.10 shifted, and my new 21 2500 ctd 3.73 . Different animals to be sure. I think the new rig has finally learned how I drive. Either that or it made me learn. Either way it's running nice. I found that I wasn't really giving it enough throttle . I don't run tow/Haul around town. I like it better that way. When the trailer is connected I do run T/H. I always have the EB on. Anyway I love this new pickup, and look for excuses to drive it. I also have witnessed the REGEN Msg in the evic. Now I know what it looks like.

Did they add a symbol for 2021?,.. My 20' does not inform you of REGEN status, the only way to catch it is if you leave the DPF % screen up and wait till it says active REGEN in process, I quit looking :)

I just read that the standard output has peak torque at 1700 rpm with a 6 speed 68 RFE and 3.23 first rear and the ho has peak torque at 1356 rpm with Aisin 6 speed 3.73 rear axle. Must be true it was on line
