What I Do

I am a Machinery Technician in the Coast Guard. It's really a fancy name for grease monkey. I deal with everything on board ship from Pratt and Whitney turbines to Sewege Pumps. Oh how I love my job:D But it has allowed my to buy my truck so all is well.

Hummm!

I finished college in September of 2001 and became a diesel technicion in the oil field for Schlumberger OFS. Something different everyday!

Just your common ordinary farm boy, except can't farm right now so I swing wrenches for the local CATERPILLIAR dealership in eastern IA and central IL. A rented wrench ape is what one of my coworkers call it. Oh I specialize in the CAT AG line; ie Challenger Tractors and Lexion Combines.

I'm a Physical Therapist in Private Practice

U. S. Army Sergeant, 1970-71

Farm boy, 1950 to late 60's, S. W. Missouri

I just put a new engine in my rusty, beat-up old Farmall H.

NRA Member, Conservative Catholic.

1) Computer Systems Engineer; specialty in secure data communications. Started with satellite comm back in the late 80's. Not one of those dot com over-paid script kiddie wannabees 'programming' garbage that doesn't work half the time and gets hacked into the other half.

2) Frustrated gearhead.

3) Sgt; USMCR; 6yrs then out.

Personal) Married and father of three boys; ages 18, 16 and 7.

Excellent thread

Senior Operations Support Engineer for a natural gas compression company for the last three years. Engineered over 400,000 hp worth of gas compressor packages for ten years before that. Every thing from 60hp G3304 CATs to 2650hp Superior 16SGT-825 engines. Before that: apprentice JD industrial mechanic from the time I was 14 yrs old to end of college.

I live on 30 ac between Sealy and Bellville, TX with my Wife and three kids.

Fun:

Rapping the throttle on the straight piped CTD while I pass the PSDs. They know their engine sounds like CRAP with a straight pipe.

Difficulties:

Deciding whether to spend money on bombs for the CTD or finish up the '68 Charger I'm restoring.

Four years of engineering school, and they never let me drive a train!

CPA (Tax Accountant) with KPMG (Peat Marwick).

Interesting mix of blue/white collar jobs here.

What all can you get a remote controlled pig to do?

Farmer/Rancher, so I guess I'm qualified to do just about anything with nothing. Raise horses, cattle, sometimes sheep, and alfalfa to feed 'em all.

And, since you can't make any money farming anymore, to support that full time job, my other full time job is designing ASICs (Application Specific Integrated Circuits) for Disk Storage Arrays at Hewlett-Packard. Well, for now, I'm told I'm supposed to soon be doing firmware programming for the arrays, unless we all get laid off due to the proposed merger with Compaq.

Also, I'm a part time Deputy Sheriff. Been doing that for 8 years.

And, since I've got so much free time, I'm a volunteer fireman too:D

Such is life when you live in (well, near) a huge city with a population of 726. You kinda get involved in a bit of everything...

I retired from Pacific Bell as a microwave tech. in '92. Got bored with retirement after 3 years and started contracting. Currently working as a fiber-optic node tech. for a telephone co. in Austin. Spend week-ends at home in Kerrville. Will do this for another 3 months and try the retirement thing again. I think I'm ready this time. :D

New to posting but not to the site. :)

I am a Production Manager for a large structural steel fabricator located in Tigard Oregon. I have worked there for 24 years and started as a fabricator on the floor. We fabricate bridges for various states, Colorado, Idaho, Utah, California, Oregon, Washington, and even Alaska. We also do high-rise and office buildings. We did work for the Mariners Stadium, built the trusses for the Portland airport canopy, and in the past did work for the north slope in alaska.

For fun I like offshore fishing for Tuna, Halibut, Salmon... :D

Do What ???

"…and the monkey pushes the button". No, seriously I layout printed circuit boards. The green things in your computer, with all the little lines on them. ;)

If you can engineer a circuit & have a partslist, I can give you a "stuffed board".

I have been doing this for almost 20yrs. Worked for T. I. & Raytheon. Got caught in a relocation/merger & stepped out on my own for a couple years. Bottom fell out of telecom, so I had to get a real job. Contracting @ Raytheon. Believe me there is such a thing as "poetic justice" LMAO,ATWTTB. :D

THIS is a great thread, good to see all the different backgrounds out there.

A lot of interesting careers here at the TDR.....

I am a mechanical engineer (Tennessee Tech Alumni) for a large chemical company headquartered in East Tennessee. I did custom machine design of in-house process equipment for about 8 years. I am now in the maintenance side of the house. Both are fun jobs but I like the maintenance job better... ... more hands-on!

I haven't seen this one yet... ... . I'm one of the fortunate who makes a living playing..... People pay me to take them fishing... . Yep, I'm one of those Florida fishing guides. Been doing it since 1984. Also cut firewood, grow a garden, help raise kids, etc!

I am an electrical engineer, retired. For the last 20 years I have been working on analog and digital integrated circuits for Analog Devices. The type of products cover a wide range of applications like accelerometers using micro-machined features that are measured in nano-meters to hall effect cells similar to the crank position sensor in our 24 valved engines. More recently I worked with high-speed network chips and high speed, several giga-hertz, analog chips.

I am now taking a course in machine tools at my local trade school so I can machine parts for my truck when I need to. Is anyone selling a good used metal lathe? :)

An aircraft dispatcher with the one of the largest 135 airlines around. . do some nursery and ag things on the side to keep my sanity.
