Show me the Money!
I've been paying 1. 45-1. 54/gal for about the last six months. This is about the same as unleaded. Currently we're at 1. 48, same as unleaded regular. What really gets me is there's a refinery 12 miles down the road that refines diesel fuel. This very same fuel they put in tankers and ship 355 miles to Anchorage, AK where they sell it for 1. 35-1. 45/gal. Every time someone puts the oil companies in the hot seat, fuel prices drop 3-4 cents/gal and everyone gets happy and doesn't say anything until they're higher than the last time they complained. It's all based on what the market will bear. There are far fewer independent service stations in Fairbanks than Anchorage, so they can control the cost of fuel easier, knowing they're going to be within a few cents of the other stations. Not so in Anchorage, where it can (and does) vary as much as 10c/gal depending on what part of town you're in. Gotta love an empire eh?

Oh yeah, heating oil is about 1. 32/gal, and all the unleaded sold in Alaska is shipped in, yet costs the same as the diesel refined in the local area. "No Mr. Congressman, there's no unethical price-fixing conspiracy"
