Hi everybody. I had a unnerving experience yesterday. Tell me what you think.

I have a 98-1/2 Ram with the 24V engine, five speed manual, 4X4. 93,340 miles.

Yesterday I'm driving along at 45mph when all of a sudden I lose all engine power, and the warning lights come on. I pull over to the side of the road and notice that the engine is still running at idle. I shut the truck off and restart, no problem. All the warning lights are out except the check engine light.

Have plenty of oil and oil pressure so I drove it home with no further incident. This morning I took it to the dealer with the check engine light on, but it runs fine.

Service tech. said it might be a fuel pick up pump.

What do you all think so I can tell the tech?

Did he check for any codes? Sound more like an electrical connection to me. A bad lift pump would not cause all the dash lights to come on, but hey, at least he knows about that common problem.

my truck did the same thing. turned out to be the lift pump. electrical malfunction, was in the process of melting. did it smoke at all? ken

Exact same thing happened when my lift pump died last week.

Lift pump would run, but at idle could only make about 1 psi of pressure. Any throttle and the VP44 had to pull the fuel in to run (noticed the gauge go to vacuum).

Dealer said its the "throttle position sensor", thats per the error code. So we will see. It should be done as we speake.

My 99 did the same thing twice in the last two weeks. I wasn't able to read the codes before the check engine light cleared.

Did replacing the throttle position sensor fix the problem?
