For the first time in 3+ years, I have an intercooled truck with gauges. My EGTs are running higher than they did in the non-IC 91. What's up with that? I know, check air for leaks, which I havent gotten around to doing. What else is there? At 70 on the flat, I run around 6psi boost (HX35-14), and 950-1000EGT. This is an empty D350 club cab, with a 5spd steel flatbed, but still, I was expecting 700-800 on the flat. I think I have 3. 54s in the rear, though I'm not sure (speedo is a little jumpy) I have played with the timing, with little effect.

So, what are youguys seeing for EGt? I guesstimate my empty weight around 7000.

Daniel

At 70mph on flat ground I run 625-650. Boost is between 4 and 7psi depending on which turbo I am using.

Empty at 70 with the TC locked about 4 psi boost, 600-625 EGT. Weight at 5500 lbs. I am running about 1900 rpms. What r's are you seeing?

At 70mph I see ~ 2-4psi 750-850* preturbo. You know how mpg's go down with more speed, I see the same with egt's, except they just keep getting higher the faster I drive. Maybe your speed is indicating slower than what you really are going. You sure that your 70mph isn't more like 80mph? Is that 14 housing nonwg? Where did you come across that restricter:-laf?

Also could've been a hot day with wind in your face when you seen those temps. . ?

Just did a 1k mile trip. With my options pulling my trailer on the flats at 70MPH

I was doing aprox 800 after turbo with gross weight of 14k

Bill- I aint got enuff fuel for a 14 housing to be a restrictor, lol. BTW- it is W-G, but I only get up to the mid 20s, so hooking it up isnt a high priority.

The temps I listed are an average. I have seen as high as 1050 going into a wind; as low as 700 with a tailwind. Sounds like my 700 is still a little high.

Thanks for the replies, keep em comin'.

I installed the Banks setup on my early '91 that originally had no intercooler - also had boost and EGT gauges installed. and at freeway speeds empty, EGT usually was around 650, and about 700 when towing our 24 ft KIT 5er...

Obtaining a proper EGT vs load usually involves properly matching turbo boost to available fuel - too much fuel at low boost/heavy load usually delivers too much smoke and excessive EGT. .

600-900 unloaded depending on the hills.

900-1200 pulling 5K lbs

I would like to figure out how to tune mine right for pulling. I am thinking of turning the AFC back to its stock setting and turning up the fuel screw instead.

My truck would run 550-625 at 70mph (1950rpm). Going up a long (1 mile +) steep (6%+) hill, I could see 900-950. Get on it and I could see 1350. If you are seeing 950 - 1000 at 70mph, I think there is a problem.

I run 550 deg's at 70mph @ 13psi flat ground steady rate.

Daniel, Have you checked valve lash and how is your exhaust manifold gaskets looking? Make sure the exhaust gaskets haven't moved into the exhaust stream with regular expansion and contraction. Also how is your exhaust system? Possible muffler collapse? How is your intake system and filter?

I dought you have much if any boost leaks with 6psi, as that is about right for a 14cm wg housing.
