Sums Tim up in a nutshell. He is a nice guy 98% of the time but stubborn as hell and very opinionated in his posts.

I just sent him an email so if he wants to tell us about it, I'll relay the info when he replies.

Sorry guys.

Maybe it is because he was nice . 98% of the time, or he was devistated when they found those darn plastic gears in the G56. Anyone call SBC or the trans guy that was doing the work?

kinda off subject here, But Mark@TST has his 2006 ram with a G56 and has the PMCR already on it, He said he was doing 3rd gear launches (expecting to roast the DMF) and he said that thing is holding up like a tropper!!

Hasn't broke yet... Hmmm. . Maybe still durable after all?

Space age plastic is pretty strong. :-laf

In all seriousness, I bet the DMF absorbs a lot of the abuse, that might hurt the trans if replaced. . Interesting to see what shakes out

Well jeeze, you wouldn't really expect it to fail the first few days - an '06 - it's the longer term reliability when pushed that tells the tale...

I know I wouldn't even try 3rd gen launches with my Con-ofe NV4500. I thought a 3rd gear launch would slip the clutch and then continue until you let off. But he said it just gripped and went, And he said he did this time and time again just having fun

I bet he has been running that G56 like he stole it since then, and you know how hard the twins TST fuels down low, I will call him tomorrow and see if its still alive

Probably didn't like everyone pointing out his errors (or misinformation) in his posts. One example was with his saying Dodge didn't ever build a crewcab truck, which they did. Discontinued in the mid 80s.

You Moron! :-laf

My service tech went to a class for the g-56. they tore one down and he said it was stronger than a NV5600, it used 2 shift rails instead of 6. i don't think the solid fly wheel would be a problem. as soon as my warranty is up i am getting one. i am so sick of the constant clunking

Hmmm, that's funny. Because the torque rating of the g56 is far less than the nv5600.

It will be interesting to see how the solid flywheel actually works out over the long run. If is actually doesn't hurt the g56, don't you think DC could have saved a lot of money using it instead of the dmf?

Where have you found printed torque rating for both?

You may become even more tired of the extra driveline vibration that you will bring back to the truck. If they put the DMF in there, it's to smooth out driveline vibrations, and reduce peak stress loads.

According to Road Ranger transmissions, if the driveline starts to resonate at a certain RPM, the stress becomes 3 times greater than the actual engine torque.

I wonder if the few failed input shafts of NV5600, which occurred in trucks with over 100K miles of heavy pulling, were due to resonating at 2000 RPM (the "drone"????).

Wouldn't the plastic gears in the g56 absorb the vibrations?

DUNNO - all the failed input shafts *I* have seen reported, were the 4x4 drag/sledpuller guys who rev the engine to the clouds, and then sidestep the clutch... . ;) :D

Are you all joking about the plastic gears or is it true?? My best friend is the shop foreman at our local dealer and went to a class on the G56 and was impressed at how well it was put together. With the NV5600's, they were instructed to just send them out if there was a failure as they didn't have the equipment needed to align those monster shafts. . :-laf

3rd gear launches are easy with the G56, since the Rokktech install, I do it on all but uphill starts. Remember the NV4500 is geared properly as compared to the low overall gearing on the G56.
