What has happened to the standard cab market?

I have a silver 2005 dodge ram single cab pickup that i have been trying to sell for nearly 3 months now. I love the truck to death and the reason i am selling it is because my son is now 14 months old and i need something a little more compatible with him. I know i have probably just answered my own question but I am convinced it is near impossible to sell a standard cab i mean there has got to be someone out there looking for one...

I agree Kyle. I've had my '99 Standard cab in the classifieds for a week now. I've been approached by a member who's looking for a nice one and this certainly fills the bill. Hopefully he'll be able to acquire it. Everywhere I go I see empty QC's,some with shortbeds. Different strokes... ... you know the rest. I just purchased another standard cab,an '07 which seems so logical for a couple,no kids,no pets. Guess I'm really a vanishing breed.

Pick-ups were once relegated to utilitarian duties and families that owned one also had a car or no kids. Once the manufacturers decided to make them more family friendly the need for a car was no longer there and a lot of families bought pick-ups as the primary vehicle.

I'm stuck in the utilitarian groove. Roomy standard cab w/backseat storage and an 8' bed. Special ordered from Saltillo.

I'm another regular cab guy. It was as balance between bed space, cab space, and maneuverability. Bed space and maneuverability won out, but I have a fullsize car and a SUV for passenger hauling duties. I can understand wanting a quad cab if it's your only vehicle.

I had an 02 reg cab Ford that was in awesome condition,but needed more room so I traded it in on the 06 QC CTD I have now. My truck was off the dealers lot within 2 weeks. I loved that truck but not enough room. Nice having the 8' bed though.

In my honest opinion the Regular/ Cab third gen is the best looking of the 2500/3500's and my favorite combo would be a mineral grey Reg/ Cab Dually 4x4 with a G56 Nav/ Laramie etc... . But I don't believe Dodge makes a) Mineral grey duallies b) it's hard enough to find a standard cab as it is. I drive a Short/ Box 4x4 Quad, but in hind sight I would have got me a SRW Reg/ Cab 4x4. I didn't use my QuadCab for the first 1. 5 years, but I admit I use it quite a bit now so I'm glad I've got one.

When I was in the market for a regular cab several years ago, it was even hard to find one on a dealer's lot. Everything was extended cab. I asked one of the salesmen and he said, "We just don't sell them much. Everyone wants more room. "

My son is a junior in high school, so pretty soon it'll just be the wife and I in the truck. I ordered my new 07 with a regular cab. It has enough room behind the seat to store what junk I normally carry with me, and it's almost 2' shorter so it's easier to drive. Don't see many others out there, though.

I had a hard time finding my single cab, I went to Sonoma, and then L. A. before I found the single cab that I wanted. I couldn't afford the time to go out of state, though. There aren't that many out there that I could find using Auto Trader and a couple other links that I found on TDR. I would have liked to have found a regular cab in silver instead of the 'fridgidare white' that I settled for but I'm happy with it! They are around 20" shorter and at least 1000 lbs. less weight. I put a shell on it and a 'bed rug' in it and I have all the space that I need.

That may be a mistake because whenever you go to sell it, you may almost have to give it away. I predict that the manufactures will soon phase out regular cabs.

I had a simular experience in 1998 when I sold my 1988 Holiday Rambler 29' 5th wheel with no slide out. Nobody wants a 5er without a slide out anymore.

Pickups seem to be the new passenger car of this era. Everyone is buying pickups and using them as there main family vehicle. I am amazed at how hard it is to find full size beds anymore, everything seems to be short bed. Although when I bought my 05 there were two regular cabs on the lot, there seems to still be a market in northern P. A. , farmers mostly I think. I think the regular cab makes a better looking truck but I needed the room for the wife two German Shepards and I, and I wasn't going to give up my full size bed.

I have almost no need for a quad cab but I always buy one due to resale. I hope to get a second truck, 97 12V for a work truck and will want a reg cab for that. Unfortunately they don't make a regular cab laramie. A friend of mine always gets regular cabs and has the leather seats put in by the dealer before taking delivery.

Mine is/was a regular cab. Once I realized I needed more room, I opted to add a sleeper that basically gave me 3 more seatbelts in the back for my kids. I realized that I wouldn't be able to sell mine and then buy a newer one and make it the way I wanted it. Then Dodge had to go and make the Megacab, now if only they would get a clue and go with an eight foot bed...

There will always be a market for reg. cabs. It's the perfect all around truck. I loved snow plowing in my reg. cab. The quad requires alot more effort and awarness that most employee's wouldnt give. Almost every landscape company around here uses either reg cab's or crew cab C&C's.

I went with a QC for the improved ride, resale, and a place to haul Cattletrkr Jr. I'd much rather have a reg cab for getting around. My trailer is 2' longer than the last one and so is the truck. That extra 4' makes things interesting.



My only other vehicle is a motorcycle. I don't think I'd take it to town this morning... -10*F

It depends on the region you live in. Around here the vast majority of farmers and ranchers prefer the reg cabs for a variety of reasons. I've had a 89,91. 5 and a 97 reg cab Cummins and have never had a problem getting rid of them. All of them were sold within in a week of trying. There will always be a market for them.

I certainly wouldn't have passed over my truck if it had a regular cab. In fact, my color combo- flame red/bright silver would look awesome in a RC/LWB. The single cabs just look better, IMO. Simplicity. Until a bunch of friends (girls) want to go out. Then you're glad as heck you got the extra seat!

i use the room for all kinds of stuff. i dont have a canopy so anything of value when traveling goes in the back seat. also, i have to guys that work with me and i dont like having some dudes junk 6 inches from my hand when im going into an even gear. my wife has a nissan xterra and being 6'2" that thing is cramped. off road sucks.

i have dreams of another 12v and that one will be standard cab 4x4.
