You have a boost fooler built into your Edge Comp. It is hooked inline on the MAP sensor wire harness/plug. The MAP sensor is at the rear of the intake manifold on the side - facing the brake master cylinder area. I think it is a 3 wire plug connection. Basically, a boost fooler modifies/reduces the signal from the MAP sensor so the ECM does not detect an overboost condition. The ECM will likely go into limp mode if it sees too high of a boost signal.

All a boost fooler does is fool the ECM into sensing the MAP sensor is not seeing more than 20 psi so as not to set an overboost code and go into limp mode. The boost fooler in and of itself does not allow the engine to make more than approx. 20 psi boost. To exceed this much boost a boost elbow must be installed on the turbo to raise the pressure at which the waste gate opens and releases pressure. Auto trans. trucks have similar device. Usually most performance modules or set ups come with a boost elbow and have a plug for the MAP sensor.

I am not sure exactly but my understanding is that the Smarty achieves this via software change but the boost elbow is still requried. Perhaps one of the Smarty sponsors could jump in here and clarify this?

The smarty has built in boost fooling, but you would need to replace your boost elbow on the front of your turbo to bleed off.

OK, I've got the elbow but I still haven't seen anything above 20 and in fact, rarely above 19. So I'm guessing my hypertech didn't fool the ecm. Any hypertech junkies on here want to chime in?

I guess this is just one more reason on the + side to buy a smarty!

could be. i have the elbow and Edge EZ, and I immediately went from 18 psig max. stock to as high as about 30 psig now.

I've got a Quadzilla XZT+ with 275hp injectors along with my adjustable elbow from eBay. I can get 24psi max when the truck is full throttle up a hill. I'm assuming I need to get more fuel into the engine to get any higher. With this setup the truck is a rocket and is nicer to drive than stock. It pulls harder and harder all the way to redline unlike before when it would start to roll off and be anticlimatic.

Boost is a product of fueling and load. Boost fooling only allows you to run higher boost without the ECM thinking something is wrong. The boost elbow keeps the wastegate from opening at lower pressures. You still need fuel and load to build boost.

I'm thinking of getting a EDGE JUICE WITH ATTITUDE for my 03 2500 dodge. I was told that the elbow for the turbo was not really needed,is this true???With out it will i be able to get boost psi over 20 or 25???
