27k miles... no towing... . EZ box since January. . 3. 54... and I live in the southeast. Will be an 89% VB. . Trying to decide if I can afford to junk the POS stock transmission. Thanks guys.

Hello Dixie Dawg,

I had mine installed (tc & vb) in dec of 00 and it cost me $450 including fluid. It is the best thing i did to my truck. My 91 % tc makes my truck idle in drive @ 7mph. you can manuever in parking lots with no throttle. FYI i tried this on flat ground w/ my 28 tt and it moved me along @4mph towing 8k. freakin unbelievable :D

Go for it

When I had mine installed it took just a touch over 12 hours for the shop to do it. They charged me $650 and that included the fluid. I know that more than the $450 above but I live in AK and everyting is more $$ here. Just plan on 12 hours of shop time and get some estimates. Also call Bill K and he can suggest a shop in your area.

12 hrs of shop time   :--) :--) I got mine done in 5hrs easy with a few other things done. That was TC and VB. Bill will tell you him self it shouldnt take no more that 5hrs labor.

Well Bill told me (and the other guy that had his done the week before) that if it took less than 12 hours the shop was not performing all the necessary pressure checks like he wanted done with an install..... It could have cost twice that much and I would still have done it... . :D :D

Well thats STRANGE because when I was looking for someone to install for me in my town Bill K. Told me that if your getting charged more than 5hrs labor I should look somewhere else. I then went with a DTT installer in Redding and thats the time it took. A Pressure check only takes 5 min. So I am not sure why it all the sudden should take 12 hrs labor now, make me suspicious.

I did it by myself....

I'm in no way a transmission expert, but I'm decent at turning a wrench. I did mine all by myself (on my back :( ) and it took about 12 hours with all of the pressure checks. I replaced the TC and VB, but did not replace the clutch pack. I'd think that a good transmission shop with the right tools could do it much faster than I did.

Does it depend of what yer having done? Like maybe 5hrs for a TC and VB only and up to 12hrs of you doing a complete job with 5 clutch pack update, billet shafts and the works?

No update kit here either... going to do that soon... and bilet shafts too... if all goes well I plan to have the Man do it himself in BC. That way I am sure its done right. .

Like I said... I would have paid twice that much... :D

A lot depends on if its 2wd or 4x4,4x4 adds about an hrs labor,if not more,IMO. Ive done both 2wd's and 4x4's. They take me between 6-9 hrs usually, but i m in no race, and i often double check my work, and clearances. I always, always pull the front pump, and put in the upgrade kit. This way you can check the condition/clearances while your in there. This make a huge difference,IMO. Bill K wil tell you exactly what you need when you order.
