What is the maximum EGT I can run safely?

Again, it is generally accepted that the max sustained EGT, when measured at the exhaust outlet, is 1200*F.

Now, if you expect to run that temp for any length of time you need to keep an eye on your coolant temperatures. The reason for this is after a while the entire engine block casting, including head, piston, cooling system and more become "heat saturated".

When this reaches a certain point the cooling system can no longer deal with the heat and you will have coolant temperature rise... watch the water temp gauge closely when at high/max EGT levels.

Here is a good explanation of driving with your Pyrometer and Boost gauges. http://www.dieselinjection.net/frames.html It is Diesel Injection of Pittsburg. In case I copied and pasted wrong, go to www.dieselinjection.net then click on their B & C Series icon; then click the B & C Series booklet. tells about power upgrades, efficeint use of power (which we ALL can use a lesson from time to time)

A generally and widely accepted standard is:

1200*F-1250*F all day long (watch your coolant temps if you plan on doing this.

1350*F - 1 minute or less, out of 5 minutes.

1550*F - get ready to send out the funeral notices any second...
