Sirius and XM to merge

Saw a manual milling machine ( newer J head type ) laying along the edge of a local hi-way recently. I`ll bet you would know if you hit one of those ! Cant believe the Movers/Riggers didn't notice when it fell off ??? They only weigh about 1 ton ! WTF !

About 7 years ago the spare tire from a p/u fell off and bounced over my left shoulder while I was riding a motorcycle. The tire barely brushed me as I ducked. Not really as interesting as terrifying. :eek

Body

ME and the wife came down a backroad(country) about 6 years ago and found a bottle picker lying in the middle of the road at night,he was hit at about 60MPH from behind by a mid 70's 4 door Buick/Chysler or something to that effect. Not the best thing to get hit with, heck the car only had a small dent on the bumper. The driver hit him and drove right over and stopped about 150 yards down the road. Me and the MRS were coming towards this when it happend. I didn't see him get hit but you sure do open your eyes when you see a body lying in the other lane. From what we found out from the police was that he was from Romania and was visiting his family on the farm, been in the country 3-weeks and decided to pick bottles for the day, they said he was making his way back to the farm when it happend. He was walking down the side of the road,no shoulders, dressed in dark clothing. The lady that hit him wonderd if i could do anything for him,but all i did was check for a pulse ,closed his eyes and covered him up in a jacket---tried to at lease give him some dignity. From what i could tell ,multiple fractures(broken back, legs, pelvis, chest was push to one side, major road rash)really a mess but he must of went quick. PS ---POINT OF IMPACT from what the police officer said was where his TIED-UP work boot were still standing up on the road where he was originally hit,now thats some force to be sucked out of your boots. Never found out his name but may he rest in peace.

I was driving along at about 2:45AM one night with a passed out gal (WAY too much to drink... ) riding shotgun in the '94.

We came along the site of a rollover, single vechicle wreck on a somewhat deserted stretch of highway. (Highway 78 north of Prairie du Sac, WI)

Long story made really short - I saw a rolled-over Ford Ranger pickup... debris all over the place and the driver of said vehicle crumpled up on the roadside. He was ejected from the vehicle during the wreck and was effectively dead from trauma. I didn't want to move him in case of spinal injury, etc... so I got my coat on and looked for other victims that may have been in the truck.

I was the second person on the scene after the local farmer heard the wreck and rushed to the scene. I looked for other victims in the corn fields and didn't find anything. I left that scene with a profound respect for life... fully realizing how precious and fragile life really is. The victim was my age and either had too much to drink or was too tired to be driving.

Don't worry - The girl made it home OK. She got more than one free drink on the house... . what a classy gal. :-laf

Rt 21 in Newark, Nj, a bag of rubber sex toys. There must have been at least a half dozen. Someone rotating stock I guess... . :-laf

That does not surprise me in the least

I drive that road everyday to work. Oo.

i found an isoamp on the road once. .

an isoamp is an electronic box that is in a locomotive. it converts the signal from the axle generators [a/c] into a signal that the electronic speedometers in the cab can read. .

not something you expect to find on the highway [i guess someone in one of the service trucks forgot to lockup the box doors or left a spare on top of the box. . ]

[the one i found was like this but from a different manufacture -qtron]

First story:

I work at a ski resort on Highway 50 near Lake Tahoe called Sierra-at-Tahoe. One morning it was really windy. There was an accident at the highway turnoff and traffic was backing up. While sitting there in my truck, the wind toppled over a pine tree that was at least 6 feet in diameter. It fell right across the road and flattened the car 2 vehicles in front of me. The noise of it hitting the car and ground was astounding!! This tree was so big that you could not see any of the car sticking out, just fluids seeping out. Some from the car, some from the passengers. The car between me and the one smashed must have been traveling together. They all got out and started to run around screaming. There was nothing to do, so I just turned around and went home. I didn't want to wait and see if any more of those giant trees was going to come down in the wind.

This is a story I only heard, didn't see:

A family from Germany was driving on Hwy 80 out of Reno heading east. All of a sudden, it stops dead and the driver is dead as well. Seems he drove over a jack handle with the front tire, it flipped up and impaled him through the seat.

This happened to me while stationed at Shemya AFB, Alaska:

I was driving a pickup truck down the flight line shortly after a weather rocketsonde was launched. That's a rocket that ejects it's nosecone with a parachute. As it decends, it telemeters weather data down to the ground station. After the nose jetisons, the tail fins are supposed to be blown off so the empty tube of the rocket will tumble from the sky and, hopefully, land in the ocean. On this occasion, the fins didn't seperate and the rocket came down like an arrow. It hit my truck dead center on the hood. It cored my motor and dug into the tarmac at least 6 inches. Sitting there, seeing the smoke drifting from the *** end of that rocket took a little while to comprehend. Once I realized what that thing was and what happened, I got out and with the help of a "follow-me" driver, got it loaded into his tug and back to the barracks. We took it into the barracks and was showing it off, when the fins explosive charges decided to go off. There was a bit of unburned solid rocket fuel in there too and it ignited. I was in serious trouble, but what could the Air Force really do to me? I was already at Shemya!!

Saw one of those in bed camper/sleepers all rolled up in a ball on the outside of a corner that had a good bump in the middle. Hope no one was inside at the time.

Of course the strangest thing I've ever seen on the road was the truck & trailer I was driving that rolled 1. 5 times into the ditch. As smashed up as it all was I'm surprised I walked away with just cuts & a hurt shoulder. Sure makes it easy to do your pre trip inspection of the tires & brakes that way. :-laf

A few years ago I was driving my work truck(International 4700, loaded with batteries) down a local highway during the christmas season. Traffic Came screaching to a halt and come to a complete stop. I was stuck in the centerlane and the other two lanes were moving. As people who could accelerate faster than me moved out of my way I ended up at the cause of the problem in the middles lane. A guy was stopped in the middle of the road and backing up to a large box. I put on my flashers about 40 yards back and went to help. I figured the battery truck that far away would keep us safe(ish) lol. Turns out in the box was a brand new big screen TV. His truck had a 5th wheel hitch so he just stood the TV up against the tailgate. When he got to highway speed the wind force was enough to flip it over the the gate and onto the highway. Surpringly the box was in GREAT shape looked brand new. But when we picked it up WOW you should have heard the crap falling inside the box lol. He was very very upset. I still can't figure how the box came out of the deal so well though.

when i worked at the electronics store, i had many tv's that were damaged, but the box showed no signs of damage. . many times the customers were not too pleased when we delievered a busted tv [especially around christmas time]

Bobbing for apples

I guess things get boring doing security on the flight line. The cops (oppisite sex, i hope), decided to spice things up. forgot to watch out for planes...

How about a horse loomaing up in a white out. Or a heard of black angus, that will cure you of driving on low beams. Still on low beams, a train engin (steam) seting on a crossing next to the highway. So he turns on his head lite just as i come along and blows his whistle. Found a bunch of coiled steel rolls in the dark and managed to weave threw them just like i did with the black angus. Naked girl, i stoped and picked her up , she was real cold, about _20 degreas, so i wraped her up with parka, and got her thawed out. Had a new tractor and the heater worked real good. She said some ******* had just kicked her out. Had my high lites on that time. Pays to learn. Found one of our rigs seting on the shoulder, the driver squating in the ditch next to the railroad tracks, going # two, Passanger train came by,enginer blows his air horns. One of our rigs on fire, i stop and run back with fire ex. He grabes it, sprays it on the ground. Says how is he going to get a new truck if he puts out the fire. I kept this to myself. Even thow i didnt like him. This is the guy that released the pintal hitch on my artucilater at a truck stop one night, my second trailer didnt like this. I learned him not to do thit again. How about running (slow yet) in a white out and all at once i am looking into the back window of a MECURAY just setting there. Mised him to. Dont get me started. All this was 50 years ago. BAD BOB

Too bad it wasn't a Flux capacitor. Those are worth some big bucks.
