What is the most interesting thing you have seen laying in the road?

On the way back from Florida we saw a (used) driveshaft laying in the road, wonder if they miss it??



Once while off roading in AZ we had to drive around a big block V-8 (complete) laying in the trail. Hmmm. It was WAY up the trail too.

How about a roll of carpeting------that just fell off a truck in front of you-----when you are doing about 70 MPH and have to hit the median to avoid the 2' roll of carpet that is suddenly across your lane and there is a truck to your right???

I makes for a real exciting few seconds till you are back on the pavement. .

well. . saw part of someone's brains in the middle of a city street once here that had just gotten run over:--) kinda freaky... or a tickle me Elmo doll in the car pool lane once... poor kid musta tossed it out the back window... .

An over the road trucker posted about cruising half awake one dark, lonely night though the Oregon desert when he had to swerve and almost lost control to miss a body on the road. When he stopped to investigate it was a life-size inflatable sex doll.

I cant recall seeing too much weird stuff in the road, however, i HAVE seen weird stuff in the tracks in front of my trains. Of course, i could'nt swerve to avoid them, so i hit them. So far, a washer and a dryer side by side. Several refrigerators. A 5 foot high stack of viynl siding, a shopping cart full of flaming logs and at least a dozen newspaper vending machines and tires. Nothign that is a match for my 200 ton locomotive.

I do hi way maintenance on the state hi way's in Texas, I have seen just about everything and anything that can be transported on wheel's laying on the road. A man I work with found a antique pistol one day. He had to give it to the State trooper's. About a year later they came to our maintenance yard and gave him the gun. No one reported it stolen or claimed it ,so it became his!

We were on the way from Las Cruces to Tucson and found

what I suspect was a driveshaft in the road. It punched

holes in both wheels on the left side of the car. We were

running right at 80 in a Neon Sport Coupe. It handled well

enough as I pulled over to the side of the road.



The most interesting thing about this is that it is the only

time in my life I've ever needed more than one spare tire.

My three year old son thought the Tow Truck ride into

Lordsburg NM was the most interesting thing he'd been

through in quite a while.



The State Patrolman who responded to my 911 call said

that it was really interesting that I was able to control the

car. Last time he has seen something like it, the car rolled

about 4 times and he elaborated no further. I took that

as a cue to not elaborate on my previous practice with a

blown tire at 120 mph.



If interesting includes strange experiences that one lives

through, than this counts as pretty interesting.

Was driving home from work one morning when I saw a Lazy Boy recliner sitting in the road. I thought about it for a few second and turned around in the median and went back and picked it up. The thing was brand new still had the plastic on it. I fall asleep in it all the time while I'm watching TV. I had to fix on of the legs on it and that was it.



Also was driving down I-65 about 4:00am and almost ran over a large tarp in the road. Stopped and went to pull it off the road and noticed it was a full sized tarp off a big rig. Took everything I had to get that sucker in the bed of my truck. Works real good for covering up those big loads of hay and straw.

About 2 years ago me and my cousin were coming home from a concert in Denver. It was about 1:30 in the morning and we were traveling southbound on I-25. Just as we were approaching the tech center we seen two hot naked young ladies on the side of the road. One was laying down on the hood of a car the other we almost hit because she was trying to cross the highway... One things for sure it scared the living crap out of us but we almost turned around to get another look. .

Toss up about posting in this thread or Joe G's thread about drivers getting away with things. Driving along in morning traffic when the hood comes up on this VW Rabbit about 2-3 cars in front of me. Next thing I see is the hood come loose and flip over the roof and land on the shoulder. The VW continued on his way as the others drivers kept it together.

About 2:30 in the morning outside of Pioche, Nevada (150 miles north of Las Vegas) my partner and I both saw Rod Serling leaning against a sign post. We turned the rig around as soon as we could and we couldn't even find the sign post. We weren't too far from Area 51, go figure.





On the north bound 5 south of LA someone put an unopened bottle of orange juice on top of one of the center divider posts. It stayed there for about 10 months. You could see it seperating as it sat there. At the end there was about an inch of orange on the bottom and the rest was clear.

most interesting thing i have seen on the road is a full sized fridge/freezer side by side combo. this was like when i was 15 [didn't have my licence then. . ] we were driving west on the 401 in my mom's safari van in the center lane following a pickup truck that had a fridge in it's bed standing up. it looked like it was tied down, but we were wrong. he hit a little bump, and that fridge came down. . it landed standing upright and my pops got on the binders real good. . the fridge stopped and we stopped. . there was enough space between the bumper and the fridge to see light between the 2, but it was close. .



i've also seen a twisted driveshaft and the pair of u joints. i was wondering what the heck all that was doing in the slow lane, but about 200 meters up the hwy was a white jeep xj with a guy in the cab pounding the steering wheel. he was real



i have seen the output housing and drive shaft of a jeep in a parking lot. . too bad it was out of my friends yj. burnout gone all wrong...

I was listening to Paul Harvey one day talking about a trucker that had been driving too long. This trucker started seeing small critters in the road but never felt them. The critters kept getting bigger but still could not feel them so he knew he was hallucinating. By then he was driving Through large imaginary deer horses ostriches etc. He kept driving even though he knew he needed sleep. Saw an elephant up ahead and started laughing as he drove through that one. BOOM. :--)

According to the story, the elephant escaped from the nearby circus.

About 30 years ago I had a mattress float across the hood of an old Dodge station wagon I was driving. I came loose from a vehicle coming the opposite way.



Several years ago I saw a Ford pickup with a trailer attached laying on it's side - everyone was ok and the OSP was there. It occured right under the Philippi Canyon overpass on I84 in eastern OR so they just routed traffic up the off ramp and right back on to I84 via the on ramp

I have seen numerous things on the highway and have stopped to pick them up mainly hand tools. One day afew years back I was driving down the interstate I saw about 10-12 bedliners for pickups. I would have stopped only problem was I wasn't in the truck at the time. Checked it out later that day on my return trip as I would have gone to get the truck to see if one would have fit but it was too late they were gone.

Was with my buddy a few years back just driving along a rural road on a saturday morning. We come around a corner and here's a nice shiny 066 with about a 30" bar sittin in the middle of the road. Nobody was around, so we put it in the truck and took it home. After we got back to his shop, we both started feelin' a little guilty, so we put a lost & found ad in the newspaper. Nobody ever called though...
