The Good, The Bad....

71 Mach 1 351 C 4V

This would be my fastest car. It is a drag car now but early on it was a 13. 50 street car. I have ran it in current form 10. 52 @138 MPH on the 1/4:eek: :D  The car ran as fast as 10. 42 and 142 MPH up here at 4200 feet with my partner(much lighter than I)

it would have to be a Motorcycle for me

a Buddies VOR 503 Super TT

the spedo was in KMH, and I remember that when the front end finally touched the pavement again the spedo jumped to 168 KMH:eek:

yep 104 MPH with the from wheel in the air... ... that was FUNNNNNNNNNNN

Buddie of mine had a 1984 Dodge Omni GLH. 2. 2 Turbo four with a five speed. This thing was insane from standing start to around 90 or so. He played with the waste gate and water injection, was pushing somewhere in the 225 - 240 hp. Not excessive but for a car that weighted all of 2600 lbs. it would FLY. Best time was a 13. 20 pass at 101 mph. It died on top because of gearing.

Extra BOMB points to anyone who knows what GLH stood for at Mopar headquarters.

Shrimpy I have a Buddy with the same car and he runs Low 12's I think he even hit 11's before he smoked it at the end of last season... . I've got to call him so I'll find out the details... I know he is rebuilding it, FASTER... ... LOL

Darren - Oh Go Like Hell

If Floor It would fix his 9 sec Camaro I would list that.

Other then that I guess the fastest thing I have been in is my truck pretty much. I test drove a Mustang GT... . but my truck will outrun it in its current state.

1. '54 Ferd 4-door w/ hugely modified 292 T-Bird motor and 4 on the floor - 2 intake setups: triple 2bbls w/ progressive linkage (very responsive and my personal fave) and... 4bbl w/ McCullough blower (lotsa fun). I called it the Chevy-Eater... munchmunch:D Its weakest link--->U-joint. Could still change one blindfolded after45 yrs.

2. '84 Ferrari Boxer - not mine and don't (most of the time) lust after one. Ferrari Red/Tan leather, 12 cylinders right behind your head, sticks to the road like Krazy glue... nahhh, that wasn't much fun. Oo.

3. '88 BMW 750il - mine - would do exactly what you wanted it to do whenever you wanted it to. My personal tops with it---> 145+ between Lordsburg and Socorro NM. 12 cyls/300 hp, the Gulfstream IV of automobiles. BTW, one of these (the car, not the jet) showed up for a race, I think it was around 1990 or '91 and I forget what it is/was called but it went from SoCal down into Mexico, 1000 mi or so and open to anything on wheels. So this black 750 shows up BONE STOCK (except for disabling the 160 mph governor that these things came with) with a sign on it that says "Team Limo" and everybody snickers. The Beemer started third, I think, and every body figured they'd catch em in about 2 or 3 miles :D Never saw em again. As I recall the BMW finished 2nd or 3rd. Not bad for a big see-dan. Winner was some tricked out Nova or something like that with a gazillion hp rat motor.

4. '88 Porsce 911 Turbo (930) also one of my own former rides. That thing was so damn fast it would scare the crap out of you. Derek Bell, Porsce factory driver, once said, "a 944 Turbo will make a hero out of an average driver... the 930 will humble the best. "

5. Alltime best speed thrill - not a car: Lear 25D - West Palm to Eleuthera and back - Jetpilot correct me if I'm wrong but I think there were a few segments of that trip that were >6000 ft/min UP.

These cars had charisma. Why did I ever get rid of these cars???

P. S. For a real thrill, race fans, try a new BMW M5.

----2nd gen ACURA integra 1. 8L full race purpose built motor,turbo(T3/T4)

11. 7 in the 1/4 mi coasting through about the last 500-600ft.

---2nd up was a 94' toyotya supre with 20psi boost,downpipe,exhaust,Fuel cut defencer

12. 2@118mph 1/4mi, with LOTS of tire spin.

I also had a Honda CBR600F3 with a TBR exhaust, jetting, timing advance, K&N and larger rear sprocket. That bike was pretty fast... . until some ba$tard ripped it off:mad:

Hemi

Little ole Hemi Cuda, belonged to girlfriend. She used to let me have it to blow the cobs out. She was kind of scared of it and would just putt around for weeks. I would get into it and dump soot for a mile or so before it would smooth out. After that, mucho fun! I still miss her (the car that is)... ... ... ... ... ... ...

Quickest car I've driven would probably be my wife's uncle's late '80's Corvette. It's got a 550 hp 406ci small block that runs mid 10 sec 1/4's. The best he's run is 9. 90, but by the time I drove it, he had changed some stuff on the motor to make it a little more streetable, so it was a mid 10 car when I drove it.

This one probably does not count since I was only a passenger, but I rode in a early '90's Mustang Cobra with an Ernie Elliott built supercharged (Vortech I think) 5. 8 liter mill. That car dynoed at 525 hp at the rear wheels, and would probably have given the Vette a run for it's money.

Fastest car I've owned is probably a '69 428 SCJ mach 1. I have owned several quick Muscle cares including:

'69 Boss 429 (still got this one)

Numerous '69 and '70 CJ Mustangs (used to be big into Mustangs, especially '69's & '70's)

'71 440 six pack 4 speed Cuda.

'66 SS 369-375 hp 4 speed Chevelle.

I was primarily a restorer, not a hot rodder, so these cars were pretty much stock. It may be surprising to some that a '69 SCJ mach 1 tops this list, but that Mustang was unusually stout. It was a SCJ drag pack car with 3:91 gears and a C6 auto. Sorry Mopar guys, but I've got to admit it would put it on the 6 pack Cuda.

XK 160 Jag

rrausch -

That Jag you mentioned was probably an XK150 - Jag never made an XK160 that I know of. XK150 was made thru 1962 when it was superceded by the ----> E-TYPE<----Oo. XK150 was preceded by XK120 and XK140. All production cars. Prototype for E-TYPE (sort of) was the LeMans-winning D-Jag - some now going for well in excess of a $mill. Nick Mason, Pink Floyd drummer and avid auto afficianado says "I suppose every proper gentleman ought to have a brace (that would be 2 :) ) of them (Ds). "

Remember the sound of that Jag? Those were the days.

Cheers,

Not to be anal, but

1961 was the first year for the E-Type. I had a 62 with the 3. 8 dual overhead cam 6. Bought it in 1976 while still a meter reader for the gas company. The district manager told me one day he wished I'd stop driving that d--- thing, he was tired of people asking what he was paying his guys. :D

I sold the Jag in 94, it was in need of a lot of money and tlc. Didn't hear anything of it till last fall when I got a call from someone just outside of Los Angeles, CA. Turns out my old car had made it out there, and was a very rare model, something to do with the type floor pan and some D-Type compenents. He was having a full rotisserie restoration done and was researching the cars history. I've since lost his address/name. Would be good to see the old lady all done up.

Man, Series I, E-Types are sexy babe magnets, in every sense of the phrase.

Ferrari Testarosa and Lamborgini Diablo, both of them belonged to a friend of mine in south Florida. :D Between the ones I've been able to afford either the Porsche 911 Carrera or the Acura NSX.

Oh the memories!

My second car was a 1968 SS 396 chevelle 4-speed. Paid $475 for it in early 1977. I was 16 and never got a ticket. Traded it in March 1978 for a 75 Nova LN 2- door 350. I got 2 wreckless driving tickets in 6 months with it for burn-outs. The 396 would leave rubber through most of second gear which happened every week.

I will never forget my uncle's 1971 Dodge challenger 440 magnum with a slapstick. Fastest he ever took me was 135 mph. He claimed it would run 150 mph and peg the tach.

Tim

Thanks RT66DOC, I'm sure your right, it probably was a 150. It WAS 35+ years ago!:D

By the way, not to flame my only brother, who I won't mention by name, but he had always wanted a British sports car as we were growing up and when he got out of college in 1966 he finally bought a Jag XK120 or 140 or 150, I don't remember which, but I DO remember the day AFTER he bought it... he folded it very neatly around a telephone pole in Nofolk, Va. Bummer!

OOPS!

Nothing wrong with being anal when it comes to automobile history/lineage, etc. I stand corrected on the first year E-Type. I think the rarity you referred to was that the first year or so had the flat floor then they changed to more of a dished pan.

There certainly have been cars faster - accel. and top end - than the E but I've never driven ANYTHING that comes close for overall fun behind the wheel. As a matter of fact the ONLY vehicle on my wish list anymore is a '66 Series II.

You're also right on the other count: Ladies luuuuuv Jaguars.

Cheers,

P. S. I just reread my original post on this Jag thing and, if you read it critically, I never did actually say '62 was the first year for the E, I said the 150 was superceded in '62 by the E. I'll have to check one of my reference books (yea I have a Jag library) but I think the 150 may have not been completely dc'd until '62. I also, however, never did say that '61 was the first E.

Fastest street legal car eh???,,That leaves alot of open parameters to be determined by us so I'll list 3... .

1st-- A original uncut, untubbed 1968 Hurst Hemi Dart(these are what currently runs in SS/AA-SS/A) 4 spd car a friend of ours owned(It has since been sold by him due to his failing health),,How street legal they acutally were is vague, but, with title and most proper street equipment they were able to be tagged and driven and the 4 spds were the nastiest period.

2nd-A 427 sideoiler Cobra, yeh I'm no Ford guy but after driving this,I decided it is a foul little mongrel to drive and will put you hard into what they claim is their seat,,One of the original nasty cars of all times. .

3rd-My 70 Challenger Pro- Street I once owned,,Capable of running either a 10" wide or 14" wide tire depending on what class I had to run at the time,,Back-halved,ladder link nylon roller,Lamb brakes-shocks,With the 452 Indy Head Nitrous motor(2 stages of plate and a fogger) it ran a best of 8. 62/167. 6 mph-1. 30 60 on the rear tires, thru the Flowmasters, tagged insured and legal... ... . I was wondering if anyone would be able to list this one. Pardon me while I extract the drool from my keyboard. :D

Why my 73 Charger....

... of course. It was my first car and started out with a 318,2bbl. I put 100k on the good ole 318 when it started losing oil pressure(don't know how many miles were on it when I got it). So then I built a 440 with h. d. rods and found a 6bbl. set-up for it. 13. 50 104m. p. h. best e. t. so far. That's with 3. 55 gears and lots of traction problems... . Doug
