My brother wants to upgrade to a powermax fueling module, we think a powermax 3 is a bit too much, rated at 120/360, but a powermax 2 maybe, as it is rated at 80/250, what do you guys think??? He already has guages, and a K&N.

Thanks,

Willie

Like azcummins my DD2s + van Aaken wasn't enough to slip the clutch on my 2001 ETH. It dynoed at 355hp/800-ish torque. It did fine towing and held up fine until I was screwing around at a dyno event. Tried to do a 3-4 upshift in the middle of a burnout. Tires hooked, clutch didn't

The new SBC fixed that problem though :)

Ya know I seem to remember reading in the Tech Man that the stock clutch was rated to 550 lb ft of toque BUT a member here somewhere said that that was wrong and that 850 lb ft of torque was the correct number. By looking at the threads above I would bet 850 was correct.

Added DDII's to my EZ and the '99 5Spd clutch was melting after about a 1000 miles of driving:D, some of which I had my 7000lb travel trailer hooked up. I haven't had it dynoed, but based on other threads, I'm probably around 300 HP and 700+ Ft Lbs to the ground. (If I'm way off on those numbers, someone chime in)

I had a SouthBend Con OFE 13-1. 25 installed yesterday by Inland Truck Parts. It's a work of art... half the pedal pressure as stock and connects great... Peter at SouthBend -- Thanks!

My stock clutch slipped when I was putting out 710ft-lbs measured on a dyno. There was over 110k miles on it. That's with an old TST PM1, and and old VA box. I've been told that 650ft-lbs is pretty safe for the stock clutch if you baby it.

I have a LOT more torque than that now going though my new South Bend OFe. (2 different friction materials) and it's holding up just great.

Powermax 2 and stock clutch

My 99 went 104k with this combo. Lost the pilot bearing and since it was coming apart a new clutch went in.

The stock clutch in my ETH held fine with just a TTPM. Once the DDII's were installed the clutch only lasted about 250 miles before it started slipping. My truck only has about 22,000 miles.

I must be the unlucky one of the bunch, I installed a PM 2, and on the test drive the clutch slipped, any RPM any gear, at 45,000 miles, new clutch when in that week,no problems since.

Check sig below to see what I am running. My stock clutch refuses to slip. I beat the crap out of it for about 500 miles. I,m talking starting off in second burning the tires through third, hitting 4th and staying hard on the throttle through fifth. I did this many times ( taking co-workers out whom till now believed diesels could not go fast). I still have not gotten my SBC in so I have turned the box off, to help preserve the stock clutch. This weekend I will be towing my 10K 5ver. On the return trip I will turn up the power a little at a time till the clutch slips and see how it does, I do not expect to get past level one. I hope to get my SBC installed next week, this thing is slow with the box off. Ken

My stock clutch held with an original powermax (~660 ft/lbs) and started slipping when abused when I added 275 hp. That's on an ETC, ETH's will slip sooner. A powermax2 would most likely slip an ETC clutch all by itself and 99% it would slip an ETH clutch. There are exceptions out there though, Dennis (Partyat33) is running a powermax3 with big injectors and isn't slipping his stock clutch - don't know how!

i must be lucky

My Comp has been set on 5x5 for 2 months now. I've gone through a set of tires,do doughnuts in 3rd gear on dry pavement, and floor it from idle in any gear to see how much smoke i can make. No slippage yet.

How are you guys doing your burnouts? I have an EZ and I take the motor up to 2000rpm, shift into 2nd, then dump the clutch. The tires chirp, then catch and I'm gone. I have a limited slip too so I don't know if that is killing me.

My Dad is curious about this same question. He has a 98. 5 5 speed with 275 injectors (plus boot mod and elbow) and wants to ad an EZ to the mix. Do you all think he could do this and still tow 15K with out clutch failure?

azcummins, I have the UFM on 5 x 5 and DD II's, This is enough to break them loose rolling in third gear. But to have fun I start in second at around 2K, then let er rip. I also have limited slip.

JR2, My guess is you'll be fine unloaded, real close to slipping loaded. I will be running with just my DD II's this weekend pulling about 3 to 4K less than your dad. This power should be about equal to EZ and 275's. I do not expect to slip the clutch, Even if I do though I do not care, the SBC is sitting on the back seat waiting to go in. It seems all of our stock clutches are behaving different.

Maybe I will have to get him the DD version of the EZ, that way he could just use the timing setting when towing and put it back on fueling when empty. Thanks.

Kenny-

Maybe the EZ isn't strong enough to make my truck burnout. Perhaps I need a COMP box on 5/5. I still believe that I have a weak 24V of all the one's I've driven.

DD2's EZ and no slip I have towed as high 18000 thousand, baby it I thought that was what you did for women. When I had just the ez and 265's I could smoke the tires at will, the 285's are a little more diffcult. You should be all right though.

azcummins, I have a Comp with the inj. pump wire left off (same as EZ). I can do a burnout like you describe. What's more fun, and more expensive is to start like a regular burnout, then get on the brakes real fast, but not too hard. You just sit there and spin as long as you like. I've even learned how to shift to 3rd and get on the brakes again. Lots of white smoke!:D Leaves about 70 to 80 feet of proof that you have been there. ;)

BTW, after I wrote all this, don't I remember right that your truck is a 3500? With all that rubber, it's probably alot harder to do burnouts.
