I just dont get some people. I see these people. some on the classified section and some over the rest of the internet wanting way too much money for their used CTD. I mean we all can get a new truck from a dealer for around 32k. Thats slt quad 4x4 auto or stick, the works. And its brand new. People are asking 28 29 30k for a 2002 with 30k miles on it. I mean they must be dreaming!!!!

Well, no, actually it's worth $$$ to get a properly broken-in and proven truck - otherwise, you hafta take a chance with an untried one that MIGHT not even get ya home... ;)

Shucks, I'd consider selling you MY well broken-in and proven '02 for a bargain-price of only $35,000... . :p :p

But you got to remember. You dont know how it was broken in since you dont know the person. If you knew them a good friend, then i agree. People just need to rethink what they are asking for and look at the kelly blue book and nada guide values before they start asking for a price. Also, aftermarket equipiment is only worth 1/3 of what it was purchased for after it is installed. This is an industry standard

i agree people ask way to much for a year or two old truck with these trucks i beleive if you look at it on a graph it would have a steep decline and slowly level out as the years add up

Today at the Butler Auto Auction in PA (just north of Pgh. ) a 2001 qc/lb 2500 with a ctd & stick cleared the block for 25,900!:--)

Truck was very clean, flame red, SLT (cloth not leather) - BUT IT IS STILL 3 YEARS OLD!!!!!!!!

I'm going to try to find out the miles, and if it was an SO or HO, but still - that is some seriously impressive $$$ for a 3 year old truck to bring at an auction.

I think sellers are hoping a guy with deep pockets sees and likes the truck. Some guys would'nt care that's it's overpriced.

dont forget folks, those are "listing" prices. many of them never get sold at that price.

on ebay, add them to your favorites and check them after closing.

most never make reserve.

the no reserve trucks are normally sold more reasonably.

Around Seattle they hold their value like gold. Saw someone pay 10,000 for a 1990 Cummins with 150,000 miles. Wish I lived where they are supposedly so cheap..... not here.

I know of a 95 club cab with 250,000 that the seller was asking 7500 for and it needed work. They hold their value, no doubt. Also saw a 1990 auto reg cab w/150,000 on it and was sold for 8,900. Now is going to be the time to watch for deals as people are waiting for their 04. 5 to get here and all the 2nd genners are coming into the dealers and for sale with good deals. I am glad I got the 02 when I did as I still dont like the new body style.

When I bought my new '02, I sold my 11 year old '91 - very clean, 120,000 miles, well equipped, for $7500 - about $500 over high book... Paid $18,000 OTD new... .

In the Spring of 2000 I bought my 5 year old '95 2500 2WD SLT for $16,000.

It came with 3 Gauges, #6 plate, CD player, Running Boards, Toolbox, Rhino Liner, New Michelins, 5th Wheel and DrawTite Receiver Hitch, Pac Brake, 57,000 miles, and probably a couple of other things I can't think of right now.

Since then I've added a Aero 45 Gal Aux. tank, ATS Stage IV, and about 4,500 Gallons of #2!

looking at a 2001 ho quad and they want 30k for it. Blue book is 23-24 on it. I mean thats the crap im talking about. That truck should be selling for about 23k. These trucks do have the steep decline but then level out in the years to come. They hold their value great but not until its a few years old

just my . 02

erik:mad:

these trucks are different... look at Mustangs... blue book on a later fox bodied coupe is about HALF what they will bring in the "mustang world"

your average joe wouldn't pay it, but it's what the market will bear...

a lot of guys on this board don't WANT a 3rd gen... heck, a lot of them don't want a 24v truck...

finding a low mile version of THE truck you want, and being able to buy it from someone who has tons of records counts for a lot... and lots of people on this site modify their trucks in ways that hold value to members of this site...

I bought my truck out of the truck trader... it had been for sale for a couple months... I guess people were scared of the stacks and all the smoke? :D but if it had been posted on this site for the price I got it for, it probably would have sold in a day or two.

if you want a cheap CTD, TDR might not be the place to look... if you're willing to pay a premium for a truck that's owned by someone who can tell you what a KDP is and why you shouldn't run cheap oil filters, you might want to watch the TDR classifieds.

also... with the current price of diesel, I'd be interested to see a breakdown of how much extra the fuel is going to cost you to break in that new '03... if I'm paying for the fuel, I'd rather have a truck w/ 30k on it already! ;)

my . 02

I think sometimes you just throw the crap on the wall and see if it sticks. I tend to agree with Forrest, it is what the market will bear. I tell my customer all the time forget that "blue book value" get your local classifieds, and see what similar trucks in your area are priced at. Than make some calls and the ones that are sold ask what it sold for. This will give you a true idea of what vehicles in your area are worth

The old throw it on the wall, scenario seems to work. And why not? It you are in no hurry to get rid of your ride, then why not do a little fishing. We have many CTD in the areas where I am from, and most do hold there re-sale value, but not as well as in some of you guys parts. I had just gotten the local trader and it was filled with 98 and newer CTD's. The 12V's seem to be rare, looks like people are holding on to them. There was a nice 2500 red CTD, it looked very straight and clean. It was a 2001 and they were asking 16,500. , I guess that was cheap compared to others I have read about. It is nice to know they keep there value, thu I do not believe I will ever sell mine. I have to much fun adding things and driving it around. Anyone can get a new stock truck, they are a dime a dozen. But take a well kept first gen, and it really stands out in the crowd. I am not a big fan of the beaters, or rust buckets. But I do like a nicely done first gen, they have a real truck look. I ordered my truck in spring on '96, and took possession on 10/14/96. I have had it too long to let it go. Starting last fall, I went Thur the whole truck and replaced most wear parts. Hoses, belts, batteries, auto trans, brakes, etc. Then added bumpers, wheels tires, turbo, water injection, and so one. Now it sets at the dealers body shop getting a new paint job, along with a new cowl injection hood. Too date I have spent $37,988. 00 on updates and improvements, I believe I gave around $37,000. 00 for the truck new. So for me, selling it is out of the question.

y-knot, please post some pictures after you are done. Your new hood sounds interesting!

Also, the thing about Blue Books is that there are Blue Books for sellers, where the prices are high and different Blue Books for buyers where the prices are low. That way they sell more books! Is that not a load of crap! But it is true. My brother and I were agreeing on a price for my Mom's car, and I looked at 3 or 4 the Blue Books, and found several thousands dollars variation in price (on a 7 year old Chevy) from Blue Book to Blue Book.
