I’m preparing to do the EGR clean and install the BD grid heater fix. Obviously if I’m removing the EGR cooler I’ll have the coolant drained and would like to replace it also. The Mopar coolant is not readily accessible so I was thinking of using Peak Final Charge. I also have access to John Deere coolguard 2 extremely reasonable because of what I do for a living. Thoughts?

I've had the Super Tech Extended Life coolant in for a couple of years now, without issue. Replaced when I had to replace the turbo actuator and all hoses since had to drain the system. At $11 a gallon for concentrate, can't beat the price. It's rated at 5 yrs 150K.

On side note, when I cleaned my EGR Cooler, Purple Power worked great! Took the time to let it also soak overnight, which gave me time to recover from the disassembly! Also ran the Super Tech Extended Life coolant then also. So over 50K of miles on it between the 2 times I had to drain.

I’m a diesel tech for a large pump rental company. We run many different engines Deere,Cat,Isuzu,JCB,Yanmar and a few Cummins in generators. Went to a JCB emissions class and we discussed the cleaning of EGR coolers because theirs plug pretty regularly. The instructor told us to fill it with acetone and let it sit overnight then flush with hot water and dry. It works perfectly on their cooler and probably a dozen others I’ve done at work. That’s what I’ll be using for my truck.

from a realistic standpoint, if the cooling system has been completely drained and flushed you can use just about any coolant you desire.
I've been using Prestone Universal ELC for quite a few years now but I can't see why John Deere Coolant would not be a good choice if that is what you have on hand.

For the 6.7 that use OAT I use Zerex HD nitrite free extended life coolant an dilute 40% with distilled water: 10 years/1,000,000 mile guarantee protects against engine failure caused by freeze-ups or boil-overs, for the those who need HOAT, Zerex G05

I'm using Peak Final Charge Pro. It's good stuff. Napa regularly puts concentrate on sale, I think it was $17 a gallon. Can also find it at OReilly's, Advance, and Walmart. Availability is an important metric for me.

I did a citric acid flush and precautionary water pump replacement at the same time.

What's your process to flush the cooling system? I've read drain anti freeze, fill with distilled water and drive to get up to temp then drain, then repeat 2 more times. Sound about right? Also curious if any of you use a coolant filter?

Pop lower hose in passenger wheel well. Pop upper hose at radiator. Pop heater hose at riser pipe and top of valve cover. Multiple flushes in multiple directions with garden hose and then blow down with compressed air, then repeat. Optional, fill with citric acid cleaner and drive, then repeat. May as well pop a fresh water pump on it at that point and call it a thorough PM job. And a $10 heater core elbow fitting.

The egr cooler is really the only part of the circuit that could possibly retain coolant if you do the above, and driving it to circulate will get that. These cooling systems are easy to drain/fill if you pop a few hoses in a few places.
