I used to choke down a Bud or nine. I almost hurled when I had a Miller to go with my pizza. Talk about pucker power! When the Silver Bullets were all the rage, I was unimpressed. I was starting to think I didn't like beer. I even tried Zima. EEEESH!
Then I was offered a St. Pauli Girl. Ah, love at last! And the beer was good to! No heartburn or headache. She's a keeper. Heineken is also a favorite. They both have a good bite to them and are affectionately known as skunk beers for their aroma. That aroma comes back the next day so your friends can enjoy it too. On hot summer days, a beer that bites back is refreshing. It has to be cold though. It gets pretty skunky if it warms up before it's finished.
I picked a couple of names off of this post to try. I took the Mrs to the store and bought her some prawns and wine for a treat. I wanted to try some Guiness Stout and some Sam Adams Boston Ale. A good "Beer and Bratwurst" dog with a cold beer and some Mexican sport peppers are a good test of a beer's compatability. I haven't tried the Guiness yet. The first Sam Adams Boston Ale was so good I had another with my brat. Boy is that a smooth Ale with a good lasting head, sweet aroma, rich almost coffee flavor with a hint of chocolate. Definately on the barley side of flavor. Even after it's warmed up some it's still good. I'll definately keep some of this in the fridge from now on.
Tomorrow when I get home from work, I'll try a cold Guiness Extra Stout.
