Feel free to list the make/model and what you like best about your machine.

Best feature of the BMW(s): ABS.

Worst: Ride height

History:Yamaha Vulcan 750, HD Sportster 1200, Honda XL-100 (training bike for Mrs), BMW R-90/6, Yamaha XS-650, Kawasaki KZ-900, Yamaha XS-400, Hodaka 125(?), Kawasaki 125 Enduro. Riding for 28 years & one (non fatal :-laf )crash.

KLR 650, Under Powered IMO but it is real hard to ride one past your skill level that way...

Great range on these, if you have a place to do some mild trail riding these will take you there sans trailer.

Dual Sport, only way to go IMO...

I did not know that!

Any ideas where I can get parts? I have a feeling I'm going to have to tear the gearbox down and rebuild it pretty soon.

Being my semantic self, technically the subject should be, "which *brand* of motorcycle... ?" *Kinds* would be cruiser, tourer, sport, dirt, dual-sport, etc. , which would be an excellent poll, too. :) :) Mine's a Suksuzi DR650 dual-sport.

I don't own a bike yet. But, I have been doing research on the Suzuki Burgman 650 executive with abs. I also have been checking out the KLR650. I have to drive 58 miles a day to work and back.

I have always wanted an on/off road bike but the comfort of the Burgman would be nice also.

1974 owned-1972 Yamaha 100 twin

1975 owned-1971 Honda cb350 ,wrecked,ouch

1981 owned-1976 FLH. AMF= poor quality.

I've worked at a dealership for 21 years. I've had lots of 'em. Here's how I'd rank my favorites:

  • Sport bike: Kawasaki ZRX1200
  • Sport Touring: Kawasaki Concours
  • Touring: Yamaha Royal Star Venture
  • Cruiser: Yamaha Roadstar
  • Dual Sport: Kawasaki KLX400
  • Favorite from the past: Honda Nighthawk S
  • First Bike: '76 Yamaha XS650
  • What I've actually owned: XS650, Seca 750, VF500F Interceptor, 3 Nighthawk S's, CB1100F, Yamaha Venture, Kawasaki Concours

Yamaha Vulcan 750

Did you mean a Kawasaki Vulcan 750 or a Yamaha Virago 750?;)

BigPapa, I had a Nighthawk S, Red/Blk one with a Kerker, I really liked it too. Had to retire her after a nasty high side incident on a chip sealed road...

That's hard for me to answer since I like different brands for different kinds of bikes. For a pure street bike I'm a Kawi man - currently have a 2000 ZRX1100. My off road bikes are Honda's (04 CR250, 89 CR250, 99 XR100, and an 04 CRF50 for my daughter). Road race bikes have all been Yamaha's (retired in '89). I've really been druling over the new Ducati 1098s and the Hypermotard - but they'll be out of my price range for quite a while. But eventually I could see one of each parked in the garage just to play on.

I learned on a '73 Yamaha 125 enduro. Then I bought a buddy's R5 350, (forunner to the RD's) after he crashed into his mom's car learning to ride. Man, what a great bike for wheelies! ;) Bought a brand new 1981 Midnite Maxim 650. Limited edition, all black and gold trim, I only saw 2 or 3 of the 650's. Then I thought I blew it up, so I bought a new leftover '82 Seca 750 in '84. I loved that bike, handled like a dream. Then in '92 I was riding with a bunch of kids, so I had to upgrade! I bought a used '85 Kawi Eliminator 900. That bike would move! The engine was the same as a Ninja, only shaft drive. I put in Ninja cams, timing advancer, carb kit and F-1 pipes. I rode it until I got married and didn't have time. I just sold it in march.

The next one will be an early '90's Ninja 900, the Kawi racing green color. ;):-laf

Sorry about the life history! :)

I only have 1 motorcycle :( Would love onither one soon, but a damn house got in my way.

anyway... I ride a Kawasaki KX500. 1987 vintage. Nothing like 90mph down a dirt road making those Banshees eat dust:-laf
