Maybe. It depends on the year of your vehicle, and how well it was prepped by your dealer. If you crawl under your truck, then sit up, facing the fuel tank, look to see if there is a small red cap over a white plastic fitting that is a sort of "breather" tube. If you have it on there, TAKE IT OFF!
Most that I heard of with this are 1999 models, but I spose it could still happen. If it is on there, check out your tank for deformities, too.

I'd rather be... .
Cummin than Strokin.

FWIW... I have a 2000 3500. . It had the Red Cap. Didn't find it until I had 10,000 miles on it. Loud sucking sound when I took off fuel cap. Dealer said that was normal. NOT. .
No more sucking with cap off. Thanks to List and Dave Fritz page.

I found that red cap on both my 97 and a friends 96. We removed them both. I did not notice them until we both got the 60 gallon tanks installed. The installer suggested we remove them. After their removal, no more sucking sound when you remove the cap.

Is this red cap soft plastic? Does the "breather" you guys are referring to look like it screws into the "cap" on top of the fuel tank where the sender is installed? And does it have a a 1/8" barbed end coming off at a 90 degree angle made of white nylon type of plastic? I guess what I'm trying to find out. Is it real bloody obvious if you stick your head up there?

tmacc,
It is about 1-1. 5"long. Just a push on. Fact was kinda loose on mine. But sure created a vacuum. To the rear of the pickup module(or whatever it is called. The little pipe it is on is toward the rear... and pointing toward the driveline. There is another toward the front with a cap on it but it is black and has a clamp on it. This one is vertical. The one we are talking about is horizontal.
Hope I don't confuse the issue.
FWIW. . Dealer told me to put it back on. . said all the new ones have them. . went out in his lot and checked 4 new ones. None had it. Now he knows also,as the next day they had one come in with the tank sucked in... Red Cap on the tank.

Thanks, Fuzz. That was much clearer. Thankfully, I don't have one. But I'm still disappointed with my milage. I'ts been about 13. 7-14. 5 that last 3 fill-ups. Bummer.

Had the same problem on my 98. Collasped the tank. Glad it was in warranty. No more sucking sound now.
