milage

I have a 2005 4x4 3500 with 3. 73 gears and a 48re transmition that has 26,000 miles on it. I average 16 mpg in town and 20 mpg on highway. Milage has inproved as the truck gets more miles on it.

My last highway trip about 4. 5 hours from south central PA (lots of hills on PA turnpike) to north east Ohio in winter (high 20's) with cruise set to 70, I got 19. 2 and truck has yet to tow or haul. My overhead was saying 18. 4, so I wouldn't trust the overhead. I don't recall if I ULSD or LSD in the tank. I use Stanadyne Performance Formula fuel additive.

Next weekend I'll be breaking the engine in by towing my 5ther to pittsburgh area and back. About 250 miles round trip. I'll post my first time towing milage when I return.

Earl

UPDATE: I avg 11. 8 MPG towing. Overhead was showing 9. 8 to 10. 2. So I don't pay attention to it anymore.

32k on the motor. I finally got over the 600 miles on one tank of fuel. Oo.

I couldn't get past 450 for the longest time.

My 2005 started off at 15-16 mpg. At around 20,000 miles it leveled off at 22 mpg. It has 37,000 miles on it now and is still doing around 22. The wife's new 2007 has been getting around 18. These are both 2wd drive trucks. Ed B

My '06 6-speed has 33,000 on it. I filled up this morning, and the overhead read 20. 3 mpg. Hand calculated was 16. 02. I'm not sure why this is off so badly... I know added fuel throws the overhead off. However, I'm running TST on 1/1 which is supposed to be "economy" mode, in that it only adds timing and does nothing to duration.

I'm also running Smarty, and have not seen any MPG increase at all. I've tried settings from 1 to 9, currently been running on 2. The TS MP-8 stays just barely on, maybe 15 -20% or so. Mileage was no different with the Edge EZ.

Maybe mine is just slow at breaking in, but I thought things should be a little better than this. I'm running Smarty, TST on economy, a little added pressure, 5" straight pipe exhaust, AFE Stage II air, etc. Also running blend of MMO, PS, and Howe's Meaner Kleaner (been running these additives in some form or another since new).

I monitor the gauges, drive with EGT between 600 -700 when cruising, shift at 2200 rpm, very few full throttle accelerations, drive looking ahead and anticipating stops, etc. Trips, interstate, town, mileage doesn't vary. It stays right at 16 no matter what. Towing has been between 7 - 14 mpg depending on load.

I do know that the SPS 66 turbo is probably hurting a little, as well as the 35" tires. Truck loaded is 7880 lbs. I'm open to suggestions! --Eric

when they are new they either get good mileage or bad . some improve with age but not a lot don't . Like I said before if it doesn't get it when new I wouldn't buy it . Mine gets 17 and 18 around town and has always done this form day one, 20 on the road, 10 pulling a 16k load. It never has changed in the 233k I've owned it. :D

My experience has been that fuel mileage really came in at 20K and has gotten a bit better now at 32K.

Again, my experience, slow down to get fuel mileage. Back in 1973 when I got my drivers license, they lowered the national speed limit to 55 MPH. I learned to drive that speed and did for some 10 years. I drove Pinto's back then, and thank goodness the speed limit was 55 because they would not do well at much more than that!

I have done extensive fuel mileage testing with my truck and just set a record, driving 60 MPH with cruise on pretty level ground, 230 mile run got me 26. 7. I used to get 24. 4 and 24. 6 on this same run last summer. I attribute the gain to a Rokktech timing sensor set to 2% advance and a Rokktech muffler. I believe the two together helped me by 2 MPG.

I am the guy doing the AAM 3. 42 gear swap that everyone is dissing me for, but that's OK. As soon as the gears are available, I will post results.

'07 Mileage.

See my signature. I got 14mpg mixed driving with Smarty on sw#3 last tank. I'm carrying 2000# on my back constantly w/wind resistance. I've just hit 2000 miles. I am driving like my Grandma did though.
