Scary braking experience revisited

Truck/Fiver Combo

What have you dragged around with chains or cables?
Me list
-Yanked stumps out of the ground.
-yanked trailer drifted over and under neath with snow.
-Last weak neighbor put his truck in ditch. This etempt failed. It rained and froze then snowed on top of that. I was spinning alone my self. Let alone trying to pull out his truck. Think I might get chains for the tires for such occasions.

I dragged my 88 FORD E-350,15 pas. (no rear seats)or as I called it, my beast of burden about 2 miles back to my business.
I repositioned my Tomato table.
I move bins on pallets ( watermelons, pumpkins) from the front to back of my Freightliner.
The van was the hardest chain pull. My uncle was riding the brake hard(he denies it with a smile).

The biggest thing i yanked on was a convential cab freight liner out of his yard (ground was wet and it froze with his wheels in the ruts). Pulled out many assorted 2x4 and 4x4 trucks out of the mud when playing in the mud. Pulled a early 80's f250 4x4 460 around a walmart parking lot untill the chain broke off one of my emergency chain hooks, he then bought a 01 2500 etc 5 speed 4x4. Moved some logs out of farm paths, yanked out a fence. And about any thing else I can find. Broke a new 10k tow strap at idle w/o jerking it in mud with bald all terrians pulling a ranger out.

Pulled my TD9 dozer out of the mud with my TD9 loader. Ruined a good 5/8" link chain doing it. #ad

Years ago when Mom and I first got married we lived in a rental. The owner told us the property was sold and was going to be demolished... . Humm I had my '64 Dodge then and really liked beer... don't know why but after all our stuff was out I threw a chain in the opened bathroom window... you guessed it I tugged the toilet! It was funny cause the path of least resistance was not exactly through the window. #ad

I was at my local recycling center digging for treasures when one of the work release from county jail workers got the fork lift stuck in deep gravel. I offered to pull him out,put it in 4H,truck wouldn't do it. Shifted to 4L and drug the jerk out only to find he had the parking brake on the whole time. The ten foot chain was stretched so tight that it stood up straight after I was done, glad it wasn't mine.

I lived in the Los Cabos area of Baja California for five years in the early '80s,ended up running heavy equipment. Had a contract to recover rental cars for the three major rental companies on the side. At least once a week some touristo would drive a rental on the beach, get stuck then the tide would come in and take the car out. The rental companies wanted the cars back, even though they were totaled, for insurance. That was fun, used a D-7 Cat with 1" cable to pull them out, then ran the Cat over them to smash flat before returning to Hertz,Avis&Dollar. The insurance companies wanted to be sure the cars were totaled and no parts would be resold.

How about 2 loaded railroad tank cars, about 189,000 pounds each, pulled about a city block. Needed to get them to a place we could unload them into tank trucks. No Sweat once the tires dug in. Old Cummins just idled in 4 low. Stopping them was a bit of a problem, when we finally got the brakes tightened, we were about 50 feet to far, so, just pulled them back! Local cops said it looked like something out of a cartoon. Did he get any pictures? Hell no, just stood there with his mouth open!
